It’s Friday, and that means that Mike McCarthy gives his final press conference of the week. The Cowboys will host the 49ers on Sunday, let’s see what coach has to say about preparations for that. (All answers are paraphrased and not actual quotes).
Injury Updates
Mike McCarthy noted that Trevon Diggs, Donovan Wilson, and Anthony Brown all participated in the mock game situation that the team had and that he is optimistic that they will all play on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
Xavier Woods
The Cowboys saw their safety pop up on the injury report on Thursday. McCarthy noted that they will see what happens with him but are optimistic as well.
Offensive line consistency
There have been a number of injuries along the Cowboys offensive line this season, but they are finally seeing a legitimate level of consistency in terms of the players that they are trotting out. McCarthy noted that he has expressed before how important this factor is and that it is nice to finally have it somewhat working in their favor.
Tyler Biadasz
McCarthy said that it is great to have Tyler Biadasz back and that Joe Looney is doing a fine job at center at the moment. He again referenced consistency along the offensive line and noted it’s nice to have options. He said no decision has been made on who will start Sunday.
Game being flexed out
Asked if he considers the team’s game on Sunday being flexed out of primetime to be an aberration Mike McCarthy said that it needs to be. He noted that the responsibility that the team has to the organization is to uphold a standard and that they are committed to maintaining that.
Ezekiel Elliott
McCarthy said that Zeke is a little further away this week than he was at this time last week because he played a game on Sunday, but that he anticipates him playing in the game against San Francisco.
DeMarcus Lawrence
Coach talked about how DeMarcus Lawrence plays the game the right way. McCarthy discussed his own time with the Kansas City Chiefs and being around someone like Derrick Thomas and that he was the first player he had the privilege of being around that really attacked the football. He talked about that kind of drive and said that DeMarcus does an incredible job with that, especially attacking the football and “chopping” it on sacks.
