The Dallas Cowboys have won two games in a row for the first time this season, but it appears that on Sunday they suffered a particular loss. Linebacker Leighton Vander Esch was injured during Sunday’s win over the San Francisco 49ers, and it was the kind of issue that usually hangs around for a little while. Unfortunately with two games set to go in the regular season for a team vying for an division title, that looms rather large.
Vander Esch is one of the most important player on the team’s defense. Without him, they struggled earlier this year. Whether he plays on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles remains to be seen, but according to the Dallas Morning News he is dealing with a high ankle sprain.
Cowboys LB Leighton Vander Esch on his injury: “It’s not broke. It’s definitely a high ankle. Just, hope it’s just a sprain. I’ll get an MRI tomorrow.”

After the game Vander Esch specified that there wasn’t a break and that the MRI results on Monday would provide a more clear picture. The results showed the dreaded high ankle sprain is what the Cowboys, and Vander Esch, are now dealing with.
Dallas has played moderately well on defense as of late although a lot of that has been due to going up against some weaker offenses in the Cincinnati Bengals and the 49ers. The Eagles will be bringing rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts to town this week and he has looked impressive through his first two starts.
