It is officially the week of the NFL Combine which means we’re that much closer to everything else on the league calendar. We are taking it day by day, so to speak.
We are inside of a month to free agency and the Dallas Cowboys obviously have a lot of decisions to make inside of their building before they can get serious about outside players. Still, though, that can’t stop us from considering who they should be looking at, just the other day we wondered whether they should have interest in Snacks Harrison.
Harrison is a defensive tackle and the Cowboys are definitely going to have a need there. There is only one interior lineman under contract at the moment (Trysten Hill... yay) but some things can easily be rectified as the Cowboys have an ERFA and RFA in Antwaun Woods and Daniel Ross, respectively.
Marcell Dareus is also going to be available... Dallas should definitely be interested
Monday morning word trickled out that the Jacksonville Jaguars do not intend on returning defensive tackle Marcell Dareus. Oh well!
The Jaguars initially landed Dareus during the 2017 season when they sent a fifth-round draft pick to the Buffalo Bills. He immediately made their run defense one of the better group’s in the NFL, he’s fantastic at controlling the middle of the action (he did miss 10 games last season so his health is somewhat fair to question at the age of 29). Considering the Cowboys have a need in that department he could very well be an answer for them.
For what it’s worth the Jaguars are declining Dareus’ option for 2020 because he has a cap number of $22.5M under his current contract. He’s obviously going to want to get as much as he can from whoever he ends up playing for, perhaps he returns to Jacksonville under a re-worked deal, but he might be too rich for the Cowboys.
