Free agency is quickly approaching for the Dallas Cowboys and it is obviously one of the bigger opportunities for NFL teams to improve their team. We have no idea just how much the Cowboys are planning on signing players leaving other teams; recent history has shown that they aren’t all too crazy about spending money in that department. The Cowboys are generally more focused on building through the draft and while that is fine the reality is that if you have success there like they have, you are eventually going to have to pay somebody.
NFL.com’s top 101 free agents list includes seven Cowboys
Just about every major publication or outlet does some categorizing and/or ranking of all the soon-to-be free agents and NFL.com is no different. They have seven Dallas Cowboys in their ranking of the top 101 free agents.
While the Cowboys have a top trio (Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper, and Byron Jones) that present the most pressing free agent needs, the reality is that they would be wise to bring back as many players on this list as they can.
- Number 1: Dak Prescott
- Number 3: Amari Cooper
- Number 9: Byron Jones
- Number 39: Robert Quinn
- Number 58: Maliek Collins
- Number 89: Randall Cobb
- Number 90: Michael Bennett
It’s possible that the Cowboys are looking at players like Robert Quinn and Michael Bennett with an eye on a future compensatory pick as they could theoretically net one if those players sign a big deal and perform well elsewhere. As mentioned, though, you ultimately have to be willing to sign somebody, but the Cowboys don’t have a shortage of those options either.
It is extremely unlikely that the Dallas Cowboys will be able to keep all seven of these players so there is at least the prospect of comp picks to look forward to. Still, though, how many do you think they’ll be able to avoid losing?
