February has just begun, but many are already focused on the days of July and August. Football season is so far away, and while there plenty of other sports to occupy our time between now and then, there is nothing like the best time of the year.
The 2020 Dallas Cowboys have some high expectations as defined by a lot of people. Honestly, the Cowboys seem to have their own legitimate beliefs as they went out and hired the only Super Bowl-winning head coach that was on the market when they were replacing Jason Garrett. As cliché as it sounds, the Cowboys are truly in a “win now” sort of place which means that they are going to have to do something special next season.
Doing something special theoretically means that they will win a lot of games, right? You generally have to have double-digit wins to earn a ticket to the tournament (unless you’re in the NFC East). If that is the expectation for the Cowboys next season, then we are all going to have to hold our breath according to one oddsmaker.
The 2020 Cowboys have an over/under win total set at 9
The fine folks over at BetOnline announced their opening win totals for teams next season and have the Dallas Cowboys just shy of the probably-needed 10. They have the Dallas Cowboys set with an over/under of 9, how does that make you feel?
For what it’s worth, BetOnline set the 2019 Cowboys over/under win total at 8.5 and the team ultimately finished with an 8-8 record. This hardly means that they can predict the future with regards to America’s Team, but they obviously were fairly spot on a year ago.
If the Cowboys are approaching a situation where they finish next season with nine wins then, this might sound a bit harsh, that would probably mean something went drastically wrong. Call it losing close games, call it something unpredictable, heck even call it the hired head coach, but flirting with finishing only with nine wins would be quite disastrous in the eyes of many.
We all understand and agree that the Cowboys need to be a legitimate force in the immediate future and if they finish with nine wins then that is probably not going to happen. The days of .500 and jump-roping around it should be in the rearview mirror and that is what the Mike McCarthy hire is supposed to represent.
