Dez Bryant is continuing his campaign for a return to the Dallas Cowboys. The former Cowboys star has been working out this offseason after recovering from an Achilles tear and is hopeful for an NFL return, and specifically a Cowboys return.
Back in February he said that the Cowboys organization is home for him and that he would like to return. After noting that the offense now belongs to the younger guys, he said:
“I understand that’s their team, but I feel like they have the right pieces to go to the Super Bowl, and I feel like I can help be a part of that, if possible. But every night, I’m just working, grinding, trying to get on that field either way.”
“I’m feeling good,” Bryant told FOX 4. “I’m just grinding, just working. I’m just trying to get back to it. I love it. My vibe is right. I want to get back on that field and make some plays. I miss scoring touchdowns.”
Jerry Jones just confirmed a few weeks ago that he is thinking about the possibility of Bryant returning to the team. Stephen Jones noted that the staff would look at it but they were concentrating on their own free agents right now.
Bryant is still ready to talk about it, giving this interview on Wednesday.
Q, What would it be to play with the Dallas Cowboys again this year?
Bryant: Oh man, it would be crazy. It would be insane. You know, I’d make sure to do my part as a player, I’d contribute the best way that I can. The best way I know how. Them boys are dynamic. You got Dak, his deal is going to get taken care of, Amari Cooper, his deal is going to get taken care of. You got Michael Gallup, a star. Zeke, Pollard, Jarwin. You got the whole nine. That defense, them boys are unstoppable over there. So it’s like who wouldn’t want to be a part of that. I just feel like what I can do right now, it would be perfect for what they got going on.
In two separate interviews (this one and the one referenced back in February), Bryant has been careful to note all the current firepower the Cowboys have on offense, including the receiving corps. He is likely wanting to show proper respect and that he doesn’t intend to come back and expect to be the star.
There’s been talk about using Bryant as a big slot receiver and a red zone threat, almost in a specialty role. Of course, Bryant would likely have to agree to a very reduced role if the Cowboys were even interested in bringing him back. The wild card is nobody really knows what Mike McCarthy thinks about all of this.
Bryant worked out with Patrick Mahomes recently and plans to again, but Mahomes has said he’s not going to pitch the Chiefs to sign Bryant.
“He’s obviously a very talented player, someone I watched as a little kid growing up,” Mahomes said, via Terez Paylor of Yahoo Sports. “But I leave stuff like that to Veach and let him make the decisions. Obviously, [Veach] lets me know some of the stuff he’s doing here and there, but I’m blessed to be with a great organization [with] a great general manager, a great head coach and great people around them. I mean, they brought in the Honey Badger and Frank Clark last year, and you saw how much that helped out. So, I know they’ll make the right decisions that will put us in the best situation to win.”
Do you want the Cowboys to bring Dez Bryant back at a reasonable price?
