The 2020 NFL Draft begins next week and there are a number of ways that we can see the Cowboys going with their first-round pick. Perhaps Dallas will address their secondary by way of a cornerback or safety. It is also possible that the Cowboys are squarely planted in the middle of #TeamFortyBurger and decide to draft a wide receiver. Of course there is also an option that the team could add to the pass rush, you can never go wrong there.
The state of the edge rush is an, um, interesting one for the Cowboys as they have DeMarcus Lawrence and then some options. There is, of course, Tyrone Crawford to work with, Dorance Armstrong as an option, and then some hopeful propositions in Randy Gregory and recently-signed Aldon Smith.
Roger Goodell will reportedly not decide on Randy Gregory and Aldon Smith’s reinstatement before the draft
Both Gregory and Smith are trying to get back into the NFL after suspensions. They have both faced their share of troubles with the league since entering it (Smith in 2011, Gregory in 2015), but if they are allowed to play they might be able to give the Cowboys something substantial on the opposite side of Lawrence.
We have all been wondering what the deal will be with Gregory and Smith. With so much up in the air logistically for the league, it was hard to even guess when an answer would come. Apparently, the Cowboys won’t know before next week’s NFL draft.
Source: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is not expected to decide whether to reinstate #Cowboys pass-rushers Aldon Smith and Randy Gregory in advance of next week’s NFL draft. So uncertainty will remain as team prioritizes prospects after losing Robert Quinn to the #Bears.

The Cowboys likely have their draft strategy firmly in place by now so it’s not like news on this front could drastically swing things, but it would still be nice for all necessary personnel to know if they will have two pass rushers working for them or not.
It has been a long time since either Gregory or Smith have played at the NFL level so it’s hard to imagine the Cowboys are counting on something substantial from them anyway. Nevertheless, it is likely frustrating for the team to not know something pretty important ahead of the NFL draft.
