Hit or Miss? Grading the Dallas Cowboys first round pick of WR CeeDee Lamb

After all the speculation, the Dallas Cowboys have made their pick and it’s a doozy!

NCAA Football: Big 12 Championship-Baylor vs Oklahoma Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

With the 17th pick in the NFL Draft the Dallas Cowboys select:

CeeDee Lamb - Wide Receiver, Oklahoma

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: DEC 07 Big 12 Championship Game

The Dallas Cowboys saw the seventh best player (according to The Draft Network) in this draft fall to them at 17. They had the choice of taking the best player available or fill a position of need. and in the past we would have assumed that they would go for the position of need. Mike McCarthy has truly changed the culture at The Star and the Cowboys finally took the best player available on the board.

Lamb has been compared to DeAndre Hopkins, and if he is anywhere near that on the field then the Cowboys have struck gold. Lamb can immediately come in and replace Randall Cobb while adding more big-play making ability to the Cowboys offense. Adding him to the duo of Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup likely gives the Cowboys the best receiving trio in the NFL that can attack defenses at every level.

This is a big hit for the Cowboys and one that no one saw coming. #Team40Burger coming to a city near you.

Draft Grade: A

The reason this is an “A” is because the Cowboys were able to take the best receiver in this draft class while still having a number of cornerbacks/safeties and pass rushers on their draft board, so they have options in the second and third rounds to fill holes on that defense.

Check out some of the national reaction.
