If you want to see football fans fight then show them a list. Any list. People can argue about a list that ranks anything. Lists on things like uniform rankings tend to cause some of the most spirited debates, but obviously lists that rank players or teams are the ones that get people to stand the most squarely out of their seat.
We are approaching the summertime which means lists are going to be heating up almost as much as the weather outside. One of the more notable lists every year is the Top 100 NFL Players that CBS’ Pete Prisco puts together and he dropped his 2020 version on Wednesday.
Seven Dallas Cowboys are on Pete Prisco’s Top 100 NFL Players list
Obviously people are always going to find issues with lists like these, but it is at the very least interesting to see where NFL minds rank different players across the league. Pete Prisco seems to think quite highly of the Cowboys roster as seven players, all who were part of the 8-8 campaign last season, made an appearance.
The highest-ranked Cowboys player in Prisco’s estimation is running back Ezekiel Elliott. There are obviously a number of opinions on how valuable running backs are in terms of roster building, but there is no question that Zeke is among the more talented players on the team. He is one of the best backs in the game after all.
Interestingly enough (prepares for debate), the second-highest ranked player on the Cowboys according to Pete Prisco is quarterback Dak Prescott. This is not shocking in that Dak plays the game’s most important position, but there are obviously some that don’t believe Dak to be among the best in the game.
For what it’s worth, while Dak is the 46th overall player according to Prescott he is the seventh-ranked quarterback. Prisco only has Pat Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Lamar Jackson, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady ahead of Dak Prescott. That is some pretty elite company.
DeMarcus Lawrence, of course, appears on this list but not in front of Zack Martin, which makes sense as Martin is in contention as the best guard in the NFL. Perhaps what is more interesting to some is that La’el Collins cracked the top 100 and actually is ranked ahead of Tyron Smith. There is no doubt that Smith isn’t his peak self and, to be fair, Collins was in contention as the best offensive lineman on the team last season, but this is still strange to see.
Amari Cooper has been accused of disappearing on the road by many, so him falling to 81 overall isn’t shocking given that narrative. Still, though, for the Cowboys to have seven of the league’s top 100 players, according to Pete Prisco, suggests that they should be very good this season, especially with players like Gerald McCoy, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, and oh yea, CeeDee Lamb added to the mix.
By the way, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz did not make the list.
