The Dallas Cowboys drafted Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb with their first pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. It is going to be a lot of fun to watch Kellen Moore incorporate Lamb into what the Cowboys do, and if you are a believer in Dak Prescott, you are likely all the more thrilled about his future prospects with another weapon in his arsenal.
That word is significant, though - another. Dallas is fortunate to boast some elite tools for their quarterback to wield and thankfully they have them both up front and at the skill positions.
We know that Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup were a very good wide receiver pair in 2019 so adding CeeDee Lamb to that mix should obviously be good, but just how good were Cooper and Gallup last season?
It turns out Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup are among the best wide receiver pairs in the NFL
One of the more fun topics to debate when it comes to the NFL is who has the best wide receiver duo in the league. Many people used to lean on Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen in Minnesota, Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley in Atlanta are interesting, but with Tom Brady joining the Buccaneers the pair of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in Tampa Bay is getting a particularly large amount of attention.
That isn’t to say that Evans and Godwin aren’t worthy of the hype they’re getting, they’re obviously one of the best. Considering that they are indeed perhaps the top of the mountain would it be good if the Cowboys were in that same company? You tell me.

Yards Per Route is a favorite statistic of many fantasy football analysts. It takes into account the work that wide receivers are doing which should be noted in addition to what happens once the ball is in their hands. From PFF back in 2017:
The Pro Football Focus “Yards per Route Run” figure takes into account the number of snaps a player went into a pass pattern, which provides a better indicator of production than yards per reception or even yards per target.
Production with the ball matters, but obviously everything is important for context. That being said, we have established objectively - beyond the obvious wow factors - that Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup are one of the best wide receiver pairs in the NFL. That’s cool.
You know what’s even cooler, though? The Buccaneers may have added Tom Brady to their offense, Rob Gronkowski will sure be interesting, but the Dallas Cowboys literally added to their wide receiver group when they drafted CeeDee Lamb... one of the best route runners to enter the NFL in some time.
The prospects of CeeDee Lamb playing alongside Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup are exciting for in-your-face sort of reasons, but it is important to know that there is far more than meets the eye there. Which two of the three will finish higher in this metric next year?
