The Cowboys game against the Chargers in preseason could be featured on this season of Hard Knocks

If things go according to plan, we’ll get a little extra coverage of the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys are America’s Team and as a result they garner a lot of attention. Television networks are always clamoring to have the Cowboys be a part of the shows that they are going to put together. Any time you can get that star nice and bright, it is a rising tide that lifts all boats.

On Thursday, the NFL announced what they are planning to do with their annual training camp series Hard Knocks come August. Normally the NFL Films product profiles a particular team as they ramp up to the regular season throughout the preseason, but this year they are focusing on two teams - the Los Angels squads, Chargers and Rams.

HBO Sports, NFL Films and the two Los Angeles-based NFL franchises are teaming up for an unprecedented and unfiltered all-access look at what it takes to make it in the National Football League when HARD KNOCKS: LOS ANGELES kicks off its five-episode season this summer. One of the fastest-turnaround programs on TV, the 15th edition of the 18-time Sports Emmy®-winning series debuts TUESDAY, AUG. 11 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), with other hour-long episodes of the first sports-based reality series debuting subsequent Tuesdays at the same time, culminating in the Sept. 8 season finale.

HARD KNOCKS will have encore plays Wednesday nights and will be available to stream on HBO via HBO Max and partners’ platforms.

In an unprecedented programming move, the 2020 edition of the venerable series will spotlight both Los Angeles NFL teams: The Los Angeles Chargers of the AFC West and the Los Angeles Rams of the NFC West. The two franchises are set to share the spectacular new 70,000-seat SoFi stadium that is nearing completion in Inglewood, California.

The fate of the preseason is obviously up in the air right now as our world continues to navigate through the Covid-19 pandemic, but when it comes to this show it is possible to see the Dallas Cowboys. How? Remember that the Cowboys visit the Los Angeles Chargers during what is technically Week 1 of the preseason.

That game is currently scheduled to be the second preseason game for the Cowboys as they are slated to take place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game against the Pittsburgh Steelers (which is also up in the air).

The Cowboys have traditionally started their preseason out in California since they have been training in Oxnard. We know that training camp will take place exclusively at The Star in Frisco so the rest of the ensuing details are obviously unknown here in the middle of June.

If the Cowboys are indeed part of Hard Knocks it likely will not be much attention as the focus is generally on the team that the show is chronicling. Still, though, it would be cool to see Ben DiNucci throwing for seven touchdowns... right?!
