Okay, it’s not exactly the real thing, but points accumulated in fantasy football can tell us something about a player’s production on the field. Last year, Dak Prescott had a monster season statistically, enough to make him QB2 or QB3 in many fantasy leagues.
The Cowboys are ride or die #teamfortyburger and Prescott is expected to orchestrate that offense to overcome a somewhat suspect Cowboys defense, especially in the secondary. Over at Pro Football Network, one of their bold predictions is that Dak Prescott will end up as QB1 fantasy-wise at the end of the 2020 season.
Dak finished 2019 as the QB2 and is going into 2020 with an ADP (average draft position) of QB3, so at first glance, it doesn’t seem to be a bold take per se. However, given the fact that he is a distant third from Mahomes and Jackson, it is. In addition, some believe that Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson are better options than Dak, but I disagree.
That’s a pretty elite group of QBs mentioned, showing that based on statistical production, Prescott is right up there with the best the league has to offer.
Here’s the brief synopsis on why Prescott could do so well in 2020.
Why it will happen
The Dallas Cowboys already had a great offense in 2019, but they got even better this offseason when CeeDee Lamb fell right into their laps at pick #17 in the 2020 NFL Draft. Lamb is, arguably, the best wide receiver to come out of the draft and to play alongside Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup with Ezekiel Elliott out of the backfield, Dak has a plethora of weapons at his disposal.
#Teamfortyburger. Also mentioned as reasons for a monster year from Dak include a weak division and the presence of Mike McCarthy. The new Cowboys head coach has always been known as a throw-first guy, meaning he should bring the Cowboys offense in line with modern NFL philosophy, and give Prescott plenty of additional opportunities.
Given all of that, they think Prescott could challenge Pat Mahomes or Lamar Jackson statistically in 2020.
The combination of elite playmakers throughout the Cowboys’ passing game and a new head coach who loves to throw will make Prescott a contender to repeat as a top-three finish next season, and the opportunity to jump to the top of the quarterback rankings.
Prescott is certainly going to play for his next contract, and with so many weapons, he may have a remarkable year.
