New Look Cowboys are Old Look Cowboys

First a shout out to Diggs. I don't think Byron Jones would have done much better. At least Diggs was looking for the football. Sometimes the throw and catch are just too good. Note: Byron would often be in position to stop the catch, but avoided looking for the ball.

I'm just going to pick on the 3 problem areas that "blew my mind:"

1. DT

Now I see why Hill was looking good in camp. All the other DT suck are mediocre. None of them have a fast twitch nerve that I can see. Woods is slow and soft. Poe is bigger, stronger but also slow. TCraw is slow and weak. Hill has some pop, but does he know what he's doing? I couldn't tell, but we needed McCoy out there at his pro bowl best. Did anybody see them running during camp? I'm sure Gallimore needs seasoning, so where does that leave the team. Worse off than last year unless Hill ignites.

2. SS

The only good thing to say about Tompson is that he is about $2M cheaper than Heath and doesn't injure his own teammates. He is not the upgrade we expected AND NEEDED with Dix. I'm ready to pull the plug and watch that Boise guy try his hand at the job.

3. Coaching End Game

I applaud "advanced analytics" IF you have a good play. How is Lamb running a shallow crossing route short of the 1st down marker a good play? Plus, Dak had already shown (has always shown) he doesn't throw dimes on crossing routes, especially in close quarters. I'd have preferred a run/pass option, but anyway it sucked big time was an abject failure.

Given the offense's struggle to that point, I'd have kicked to tie, just to give the team hope. Did I think Goff would lead them on a game winning FG drive thereafter? I figured it was about a 50-50 chance. In other words, better than that LAMB play.

Bonus: The game is too fast for the refs (and camera) or they are dumped easily

The call against Gallup was an insult to football lovers. Two good players jousted for position and Gallup won FAIR AND SQUARE. At least Ramsey could have groaned and flopped to the ground for maximum entertainment value. Instead, the refs should have just called Frederick for tripping (yeah, I know he's retired). If they can't do their job in the clutch, then what's the point?

It's imaginable that the team read their press and didn't think they'd have to fight so hard. I think that's fixable. But looking at the Rams roster, they are not good. On the other hand, neither is the NFC East.
