It’s only the start of the 2020 NFL season, but the Cowboys really need a win this week. Starting out 0-1 is not the worst thing in the world, but 0-2 teams have a much lower chance of making the playoffs, even in a year when the playoffs have expanded to seven teams per conference.
The Cowboys host an Atlanta Falcons team that also lost it’s season-opener, so both teams are desperate. The Cowboys offense was supposed to be a juggernaut this year, but they were held to 17 points last week by the Rams. That is certainly under-performing, but this week they get a much softer Falcons defense. The Seahawks, not exactly an offensive powerhouse, just put up 38 points on them. The Cowboys offense should get going this week.
And they will need to get going on offense because the Falcons have a potent passing attack led by Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. The Cowboys defense had trouble with the Rams offense although they managed to hold them to 20 points. The Falcons like to attack downfield, so the Cowboys secondary will be under pressure. A strong pass rush would certainly help.
