The Dallas Cowboys returned to practice today after taking a a day off yesterday. The opening game against the Los Angeles Rams is jut 10 days away, not much more time for preparation. The practice schedule for the media is now going to be even more limited than it was previously, but we still get some updates at the start of practice that deal with injuries.
One of the more curious, and confusing, cases of injury is the one concerning Amari Cooper. The Cowboys star receiver has been limited recently although both Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy won’t confirm any kind of injury. Today, Cooper was on the sidelines working with the trainers and not participating in the regular practice. This is usually a sign of injury.
Amari Cooper is dealing with an injury. Working on chords with trainer during practice.

Cowboys have downplayed situation involving WR Amari Cooper. And indeed, perhaps he will be full go in next Sunday’s opener vs. Rams. But it is notable he’s been a limited to non-participant the past four practices (since Aug. 28). Worked today on resistance cords with trainer.

With the mounting evidence, one would assume he is dealing with some kind of injury, the severity of which is unknown. Why the Cowboys aren’t addressing this more clearly is anybody’s guess.
There was some good news today as cornerback Chidobe Awuzie was as least back on the practice field even if he was limited in what he could do.
Chidobe Awuzie (knee) returned to do individual drills in practice. No practice for La’el Collins, Jourdan Lewis, Sean Lee, Luke Gifford and Xavier Woods. Lewis was at practice, no longer wearing a walking boot

Trevon Diggs’ progress in the absence of Awuzie is encouraging, but the Cowboys will need to have their experienced cornerback back on the field.
Although, as noted above, Xavier Woods was not back on the field today, a concerning development for the safety position. Yesterday McCarthy said Woods would be back sooner than later, but he wasn’t able to go today. Jourdan Lewis is not expected back this week, but the news that he is out of his walking boot is positive.
