Another week, another Talkin’ the Star podcast with a very intriguing 2021 NFL Draft prospect joining the show. This week we were joined by Duke EDGE Victor Dimukeje (De-Moo-K-Gee), and boy was it a fantastic episode. Along with the attached interview, here is a scouting report on the Blue Devils EDGE defender who should be drafted in the top 100 in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Name: Victor Dimukeje
Strong, powerful, and explosive, Victor Dimukeje gives me flashbacks to watching Carl Lawson at Auburn years ago. Shows a great game-plan for rushing the passer throughout an entire game, flashing outside speed, inside power, and a mixture of both to throw off offensive linemen’s blocking plans snap-to-snap. Shows an impressive inside-swim and inside-rip move with above average upper-body strength to power through blocks to knock quarterbacks off their mark. While not a flexible freak by any means, showcased above average ankle flexion when flattening the top of the arch. Initial burst off the ball is impressive, and he has the ability to win with his first-step quickness. Uses shorter-build to his advantage with rushing with leverage and containing the edge against the run. Love the effort he plays with both as a pass rusher, run defender, and when chasing plays down from the back-side. Played in a ton of games at Duke, against some of the best offensive tackles in college football.
While Dimukeje shows impressive explosiveness, he’s not going to jump out of any gyms, or break any records in terms of speed. Rushes down the middle of offensive linemen a lot, and relies on his power and leverage to knock offensive linemen off balance early in reps. Needs to develop more of a counter, and can stand to work inside and outside more often than he showed on tape. Looks to lack ideal length at the position, and while it didn’t hurt him at Duke, the NFL is a completely different beast. Didn’t do it much at Duke, so lack of coverage reps could be an issue for some 3-4 teams.
All in all, Victor Dimukeje is a technically sound, high-effort, powerful defensive end, who will likely excel in 4-3 schemes rushing off the weak-side. While some development to his pass rush arsenal would be nice, he showed a variety of ways to win at Duke, and does a nice job of setting up offensive tackles up throughout a game with his plan. Hard to find a player with as much experience and plays as hard as Dimukeje coming out of Duke. Really surprised he didn’t receive a Reese’s Senior Bowl invite, because he’s definitely good enough to be in Mobile, and think he could have benefited by spending the week down in Mobile. Love his ability as a three-down defender, and the maturity and intelligence he possesses is extremely impressive.

Duke’s Victor Dimukeje (#51) is quietly one of the smarter run defenders in the 2021 edge class.— Nick Price (@PriceCheck3) January 5, 2021
Although Dimukeje goes unblocked, he does a good job maintaining outside leverage on the option to quickly make a play for minimal gain. pic.twitter.com/RlPUjOvb1i
You've heard of turning speed to power…Duke DE Victor Dimukeje does that in this clip. He can also win the corner, though his lack of size allows him to be engulfed by better OT. He stands up at times, portending a move to LB. #SnapScout21 pic.twitter.com/PPgcBvnqKW— Chad Reuter (@chad_reuter) November 20, 2020
