Oftentimes in the NFL when it rains it pours and a similar phenomenon is true in the opposite (the good) direction. Good things are happening to the Dallas Cowboys right now. They have won six in a row, look like they are going to cruise to an NFC East title, and figure to be one of the heavy-hitters in the NFC as a whole. Last week, they managed to go on the road to face the Minnesota Vikings and won a game despitet one of the highest levels of adversity that a team can face - using a backup quarterback.
Dallas prevailed, and largely did so due to a huge performance from their defense (all credit in the world to Cooper Rush, too). Defensively though, the Cowboys held Minnesota to a 1 for 13 success rate on third downs and were partly so stingy because of their all-world rookie linebacker Micah Parsons.
Parsons’ game against the Vikings was so incredible that the NFL took notice. He was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8.

He is the first Cowboys LB to win it since Leighton Vander Esch in 2018 and the fourth rookie linebacker in team history to win the award (Leighton Vander Esch, Sean Lee, DeMarcus Ware). pic.twitter.com/Ygab40Y7T6
Cowboys LB @MicahhParsons11 is the first rookie in NFL history to have 10 solo tackles and 4 tackles for loss in a single game.

It was an outstanding performance from Parsons when the Cowboys needed it most which is exactly the type of player he has been for this team through the first seven contests of his career. Someday, we are all going to look back on the night of the 2021 NFL Draft and be even more grateful than we already are for how things shook out.
Congratulations to Micah Parsons!
