In the lead-up to free agency, many Dallas Cowboys fans jokingly said that the team would be far more active on the third day than in the opening minutes of the legal tampering period. Such is the way of America’s Team over the last decade or so.
This proved to be true as the work day ended on Thursday with the Cowboys having doubled their outside additions alone. Dallas signed defensive linemen Carlos Watkins and Brent Urban to work inside of their defensive line (Jake McQuaide and Ty Nsekhe were the previous two additions).
There is no question that the inside of the defensive line is what needed the most work for the Cowboys as things along the pass rush are relatively set, or at least there is an idea/hope for what’s to come.
Bodies are needed though, and the Dallas Cowboys have a new one.
The Dallas Cowboys are bringing in pass rusher Tarell Basham
Back during the days of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Cowboys hoped that they would be getting an elite pass rusher by way of Taco Charlton. Needless to say that it did not exactly work out the way that they hoped it would.
The Cowboys have just about been looking for an option opposite of DeMarcus Lawrence ever since. They have had some success with players like Robert Quinn and Randy Gregory at moments, but for the most part it has been sort of a game of musical chairs.
Gregory is likely going to be a big part of the rotation in 2021 and ideally so will second-year rusher Bradlee Anae. There is a new mouth to feed though as Dallas is bringing in Tarell Basham.
It got done: Cowboys have agreed to terms with ex-Jets edge defender Tarell Basham, source said. Two-year contract is worth up to $6.5M. https://t.co/PhhnWsj4TD

This is obviously a depth signing for the Cowboys which is the type of move that we knew they would be interested in making all along. This is, to quote a particular Mandalorian, the way. At least it is for them.
We will have to wait and see whether or not Basham can have success with his third team in the NFL. Hopefully it is the charm.
