The second week of free agency is just about in the books, but just because it’s the weekend doesn’t mean that the National Football League stops rolling. While the Dallas Cowboys have been busy adding safeties so far this offseason (Keanu Neal, Jayron Kearse, Damontae Kazee), they have notably not negotiated a deal with one in particular. Xavier Woods saw his rookie contract with America’s Team expire this offseason and it has been rather obvious that the organization is moving on without him.
Saturday brought the news that Woods has found a new home. Like many former Cowboys defensive backs before him, he has flocked to Mike Zimmer which means that he is now a member of the Minnesota Vikings.
The #Vikings aren’t done: They’re signing former #Cowboys safety Xavier Woods to a 1-year deal worth up to $2.25M, source said. A perfect system fit and high upside.

Woods was a player who many Cowboys fans were excited about from the moment that the team traded up to get him back in 2017. He seemed to have an ability to pull turnovers from time to time, but that idea has faded further and further into our memories.
What’s more is that this past season Woods made a comment about effort that made national headlines and called the disposition of the entire defense into question. Needless to say a change was probably best for all parties involved.
The Cowboys will visit the Minnesota Vikings this season so they will see Woods soon enough.
