The unfortunate reality is that we are still much further away from the 2021 season’s beginning as we are 2020’s conclusion, but hopefully the time passes by quickly. Next week will bring with it the 2021 NFL Draft which will help make the offseason feel like it’s moving faster. Many Dallas Cowboys fans are quick to try and forget last season as it was obviously quite the disappointing campaign for America’s Team.
Much of the reason why this past year was so broken for the Cowboys obviously has to do with injury. Losing your franchise quarterback is a difficult thing for any franchise to overcome, let alone doing so while also losing your starting tackles and a number of other players.
Ultimately, general consensus seems to be that the Cowboys will be better next season than they were last. We recently saw that the Caesars Sportsbook by William Hill set the Cowboys 2021 win total at 9.5. Now, the win totals from our friends at BetOnline are out and they have the Cowboys in a similar situation.
The opening win total for the 2021 Dallas Cowboys has been set at 9.5
It is important to remember when discussing win totals that the NFL added a 17th game to the regular season meaning that there is one more opportunity for a win to be had, although that is also one more opportunity for a loss as well.
The 17th game will be a road contest against the New England Patriots for the Cowboys, but the question of whether or not they will win that game is not the one that we are looking to answer. BetOnline has the Cowboys’ win total set for 9.5 in 2021, would you take the over or under?
If you consider the Cowboys to be a playoff contender then 9.5 wins (the over obviously being 10) seems rather safe. Considering that they will get six shots against the NFC East, even if they only win five of those they “only” have to win five of their other nine games.
Some of the easier opponents that the Cowboys will face in 2021 are the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Las Vegas Raiders, and Denver Broncos. Maybe you don’t feel like any of those are easy, but on paper they are less intimidating than others. The Cowboys will also get to face the New Orleans Saints in their first full season without Drew Brees in a while.
The expectation for Mike McCarthy’s Cowboys was to compete right away, but his time with the team got off to a rocky start in 2020. It makes sense to give him a second chance so to speak, however, results are expected very soon. If his team isn’t contending for the over in this particular capacity in 2021 it would likely mean that something significant has gone wrong.
