Patrick Surtain II says his ‘toughest cover’ in college was Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb - Demetrio Teniente, DMN
Patrick Surtain gives some love to CeeDee Lamb
Still, when asked what his strengths are as an outside corner, Surtain said it was his technique and IQ, “I just think I’m fundamentally sound.”
The Cowboys coaching staff also asked which player has been his toughest cover so far and Surtain confesses that is was current Cowboys wide receiver, former rookie sensations CeeDee Lamb.
“I think if I was choosing, I’d say CeeDee [Lamb],” Surtain said. “I went against him. He was a good all around receiver. Fast, got great hands, great ball skills, all that.”
It’s likely Surtain was talking about the 2018 Orange Bowl between Oklahoma and Alabama. Alabama won, 45-34, but Lamb finished that game with 8 catches for 109 yards and a touchdown.

Cowboys draft conversation: Tyron Smith’s future? What makes sense at 10 and 44? - Jon Machota and Bob Sturm, The Athletic
Dallas Cowboys have a multitude of options on Day 2 with pick No. 44.
When you look at Day 2, and as it stands right now the Cowboys have three opportunities, and they could certainly combine picks to improve those opportunities, or they could actually go backward and multiply those opportunities. I’m really curious how they play things especially at Pick 44, because for me, I think that kind of hits a sweet spot. Now, we’ve all done mocks. We’ve all tried to do simulations. And there are times where it looks like pretty slim pickings. But for the most part, the supply and demand of that spot, like the Cowboys’ needs and what should be there, I think they’re in a pretty good spot to find the all-important second difference-making player if they play this right, and I’m pretty excited about who that might be.
To my brother, Tyrone Crawford - DeMarcus Lawrence, The Players’ Tribute
D-Law bids an emotional farewell to long time friend and teammate, Tyrone Crawford.
It’s definitely going to be tough to look around and not see you there anymore.
But at the same time, I couldn’t be happier for you. Your wife and those two beautiful young girls of yours deserve all of you. The energy and devotion you gave on the field was unmatched by anyone, and I know that all that energy is now going to be focused on your girls. It will bring a ton of joy to their lives.
That’s so wonderful. For all of you. You all deserve the utmost happiness!
You’re a truly great man, a follower of Christ and a beloved father, son, friend, leader, soldier, protector, football player, and most of all … a brother. And not just to me, but to many! That’s what makes you one of a kind.
I will always cherish the moments that we shared together. At the end of the day, you made DeMarcus Lawrence’s pro career. Not many people realize that, but you did. I’m not exaggerating when I say that. And you helped mold me into the person I am today. You lifted me up when I needed it, and you showed me the way. You set the right example, big bro. And, going forward, I promise to do the same for others, and to lead the way you taught me to. It’s the least I can do as a tribute to you.
Oh, Canada: Dallas Cowboys Ex Tyrone Crawford wanted by the CFL? - Donnavan Smoot, Cowboys Maven
Could Tyrone Crawford go from recently retired to the CFL?
Just-retired Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford was added to the exclusive negotiations list by the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts this week.
What does it mean?
Toronto added Crawford nearly a week before the former third-round pick announced his retirement from the NFL. Crawford was drafted in 2012 out of Boise State. In his eight-year career, all for the Cowboys, he recorded 195 tackles in 117 games and 25 sacks.
8 sub-4.4 speed-demon WR Cowboys must consider - KD Drummond, Cowboys Wire
An injection of speed into the Cowboys aerial attack could make it even more potent.
Speed kills. For all of the glory the Dallas Cowboys have in their offense arsenal, the weaponry really doesn’t include any speed merchants. The group of wide receivers Dallas rolls out on a weekly basis can compete with any group around the NFL and cause nightmares for even the best-built secondaries.
However if there’s one element they can improve on is a lack of deep, mesmerizing speed. What Dallas needs is that guy who forces opposing defensive coordinators to keep his deep safety super deep, uber deep, next county deep. As they didn’t grab a wideout in free agency, they need to do so in next week’s draft. This year’s class is short on, well, height, but it’s not short on game breakers.
CeeDee Lamb is one of the smoothest wideouts out there, and while 4.5 speed is something mere mortals dream of, it’s not ground-breaking for NFL caliber receivers, nor is his game centered around it. Michael Gallup can threaten defenses deep with a 4.51 40 time, but his game is being a contortionist who is tougher than most every defensive back matched up on him. Amari Cooper is very fast and his route-running ability is matched by less than a handful of wideouts throughout the league. He checks in at 4.42.

Biggest offseason acquisition for every NFL team in 2021 so far - Gary Davenport, Bleacher Report
Who is the Dallas Cowboys biggest offseason acquisition?
Dallas Cowboys: DB Damontae Kazee
There’s been an exodus from Atlanta to Dallas in 2021. Former Falcons head coach Dan Quinn is the Cowboys’ new defensive coordinator. Dallas signed safety Keanu Neal as well. But the best addition may have been the lowest-profile one.
Damontae Kazee is hardly a household name. But over his four seasons with the Falcons, he played all over the back end, whether it was at box safety, deep safety or in the slot. His 2020 campaign was an injury-marred disappointment, but in his last full season in 2019, he registered 74 total tackles and posted a passer rating against of 66.3. The season before that, he tied for the league lead with seven interceptions.
Getting a versatile, ball-hawking defensive back for just over $1 million on a one-year deal is larceny
Dallas could use more Tony Pollard’s with 2021 mid-round picks - Jess Haynie, Inside The Star
Cowboys need to do a better job of hitting on their mid-round picks, like Tony Pollard.
While you hope for longtime starters and Pro Bowlers from any round of the draft, a guy like Pollard is a more realistic best-case scenario for your picks from the 3rd-5th rounds. Someone who can hit the ground running (no pun intended) and provide immediate depth, plus starting potential, is huge.
Just look at the value Pollard’s already provided and still is for the Cowboys. He’s only halfway through his rookie contract and counted less than $1 million in each of the last two seasons. Tony’s 2021 cap hit is right at $1 million and is still a nice discount for a backup RB and versatile offensive weapon.
