We are finally just one day away from the 2021 NFL Draft and it feels safe to say that we have explored just about every possible hypothetical that could encircle the Dallas Cowboys.
Different selections with the 10th overall pick will send the draft in a number of directions for the Cowboys. While their mantra should be the best available player all throughout, it is difficult to avoid chasing certain things if you feel shallow at one spot or another.
On Tuesday evening the Talkin’ The Draft crew did a livestream mock draft on the Blogging The Boys YouTube Channel and made decisions for every pick in the moment. Perhaps none was as fascinating as what happened in the first round as both Patrick Surtain II and Jaycee Horn went inside of the draft’s top nine picks. You can watch the entire stream right here, and if you like what we are doing please consider subscribing to the Blogging The Boys YouTube Channel right here!
We have spent so much time wondering what would happen if just one of the cornerbacks was off of the board, but this particular simulation took them both off before Connor Livesay, Dalton Miller, Cole Patterson, and myself had the opportunity to pick them. You will find that the top options in the first round for Dallas were Northwestern tackle Rashawn Slater and Florida tight end Kyle Pitts.
Call that inconceivable if you’d like, but it really comes down to two things happening for it to be possible (barring a trade by another team of course). The Atlanta Falcons would need to pass on them (which they did here by taking a quarterback) as would the Miami Dolphins (they are rumored to be in on Jaylen Waddle so the theory has life).
Ultimately we still landed a lot of help for the Cowboys secondary by way of Ifeatu Melifonwu and Richie Grant; altogether the class was pretty solid.
What would you want to see the Cowboys do at 10 if both of the top cornerbacks were off of the board?
