As night one of the NFL Draft began the Cowboys were slated to have the 10th pick in the first round and 10 picks overall.

Cowboys swap picks with a division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles:
The Cowboys traded their 10th overall pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for their 12th and 84th overall selections.
Cowboys add the Eagles' third-round pick (No. 84 overall) to drop from No. 10 to 12 overall. Eagles jump ahead of the Giants' No. 11 selection.

With both Jaycee Horn and Patrick Surtain II off the board, Dallas looked to trade back and collect a day two pick.
Thwarted in their bids to take a cornerback, the Cowboys traded the 10th pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for No. 12 and third-round pick. The Cowboys were high on Jaycee Horn and Patrick Surtain, who went to Carolina and Denver at Nos. 8 and 9.

Micah Parsons has said all along that he wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy:
“It means everything” on joining #Cowboys Micah Parsons says he wore blue because he knew! Let’s make it LBU again as he acknowledges LVE and Jaylon Smith. This was a good one for Dallas
— Jane Slater (@SlaterNFL) April 30, 2021
Even in December of last year Parsons knew where he wanted to be:

QB1 seems pumped to add Micah Parsons to America’s Team:
Welcome @MicahhParsons11 lets get to work! @dallascowboys #GRIND #FAITH
— Dak Prescott (@dak) April 30, 2021
Jaylon Smith is hyped to add Parsons to the linebacker room:
@MicahhParsons11 LET’S GET IT LIL BRO !!!!!!!!!!!!! ✊ Congrats mane!!!! Family! @dallascowboys #ClearEyeView
— Jaylon Smith (@thejaylonsmith) April 30, 2021
Some reaction from NFL media and analysts about the pick:
How the Cowboys will split the linebacking duties is a question.
Micah Parsons is expected to be the Cowboys' Mike linebacker for years to come. Could mean Jaylon Smith at Sam and Leighton Vander Esch at Will in 2021. LB convert Keanu Neal may be busy at safety for Dallas after all.
— Michael Gehlken (@GehlkenNFL) April 30, 2021
It seems like the Cowboys might have been more locked in on Parsons than we thought.
The #Cowboys take the LB they targeted and were slated to take at No. 10 almost no matter what: #PSU LB Micah Parsons at No. 12. Parsons told me last night he looked forward to tackling Zeke Elliott in practice. Fun times.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 30, 2021
The pick has been a bit polarizing, but Parsons is getting praised in a lot of corners.

The #Cowboys are taking Penn State LB Micah Parsons at No. 12. •Freakish athleticism coming to Dallas for new DC Dan Quinn.

Good. Thank you. Micah Parsons ran 4.39 at 246 pounds. Leaped off my TV screen when I watched him two years ago. Opted out last year. But he cannot help but help this pathetic Cowboys defense.

Scoff all you want, Cowboys nation. This is an excellent pick. The guy is a baller with an attitude. #micahparsons

The Micah Parsons’ pick will be a good one for the Cowboys. He’s a difference maker and a LB with legit pass rush skills. Fast, athletic and explosive. #NFLDraft

A little personal touch from Parsons.
When Micah Parsons was 4 years old, he told his mom he “didn’t wanna live like this” and he was going to the NFL.
