As the second night of the NFL Draft began the Cowboys were slated to have the 44th overall selection in the second round and four selections throughout the night.
It was reported early on that the Cowboys were trying to trade up in the second round, supposedly for a cornerback, but were unable to get that done. Instead, they picked at their allotted spot.

In limited action Joseph put up some impressive numbers:

Some reaction from NFL media and analysts about the pick:
#Cowboys getting inexperienced but talented Kentucky CB Kelvin Joseph at 44

The Cowboys have their corner, picking Kentucky’s Kelvin Joseph. At 5-11, 197 pounds, he had five pass deflections and four interceptions in nine games before opting out of the final two. It’s the second straight year they have picked a CB in Round 2 after getting Trevon Diggs

Joseph’s talent has never been the question, but can he put his “red flags” in the past?
Kelvin Joseph is a first-round talent, and I think the "red flags" are more about focus than who he is as a person.

I like this pick, especially given who was taken in front of them.
I love the Kelvin Joseph pick so much. First round talent - Dallas is comfortable with the character and lack of experience.

You wanted ball skills on the boundary? You got it with Diggs and Joseph.
Kelvin Joseph on tape alone is as good as the top group of CBs.

Source just added: "ability to locate the ball in the air, and hands to catch." #Cowboys #KelvinJoseph https://t.co/wNFFcVpGLN

Chris Simms looks to be a fan of what Dallas has done thus far:
The @dallascowboys got 2 starters on defense with Micah Parsons and now Kelvin Joseph. Joseph is the real deal, someone who grew on me the more I evaluated.

One of the best games I've seen from a cornerback all year. https://t.co/MhzgcYKVoR

Trevon Diggs and Kelvin Joseph look to be the future of the secondary:
New Cowboys CB Kelvin Joseph: "The Cowboys are going to get a playmaker." Second-round pick led Kentucky with four interceptions in nine games last season. On pairing up with CB Trevon Diggs on outside: "I feel like we can do a lot of damage."

The Cowboys are getting a super-talented, but raw corner, who has some maturity issues. This is a risk pick with potential for a huge payoff if things go right.
