The 2021 NFL Draft is so close that it is actually a little bit difficult to believe. It feels like we could blink and the Dallas Cowboys will be on the clock.

In anticipation of the draft there have obviously been a number of mock drafts done across the internet. On Wednesday evening, the Talkin’ The Draft crew here at Blogging The Boys did a full, first-round mock draft livestream on our YouTube Channel and we will be doing these every week until the draft itself (you can subscribe to the channel right here).

As it was a full, first-round mock we obviously got to the Cowboys’ selection quickly and made sure that they took Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II. Unfortunately the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles both also walked away with serious playmakers.

Beyond just running through the mock we also discussed a number of scenarios that could come into play for the Cowboys:

  • What the board looked like at number 20 overall (where the Chicago Bears pick) should the Cowboys trade back with them
  • Just how far Caleb Farley fell and the type of risk that he would be and which teams make the most sense to take it
  • Potential candidates for the Cowboys to trade back into the first round and acquire

This was a fun exercise where we really covered a lot of ground as it pertains to what the draft will look like for the Cowboys. Ultimately, though, they did get help for the secondary which would be hard to be upset about at the end of night one.
