The remaining offseason should be an interesting one for the Dallas Cowboys. Not only are offseason workouts about to get underway, but the competition they’ve added to the roster should create no shortage of position battles leading up to the 2021 season opener. Things are about to get interesting and so you might want to strap in.

Due to the competition the Cowboys have added throughout the roster there should be a lot of position battles worth monitoring. Today, we’ll look at five of the position battles to pay particularly close attention to and rank them accordingly.

#5 - Wide Receiver

Even though the Cowboys are set with Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb as their top WRs, there could be a really interesting position battle going on behind them. Right now Cedrick Wilson and Noah Brown have the leg up on the competition due to their experience, however, Simi Fehoko and several interesting undrafted free agent receivers could push them off the roster. This could be a heated battle to see who ends up filling out Dallas’ WR position for the 2021 season.

#4 - Safety

Upgrading the safety position seems like a seasonal thing for the Cowboys. They’ve added several new faces to the mix for the upcoming season, but right now there don’t seem to be any sure-things. Donovan Wilson and Damontae Kazee seem to be the odds-on favorites at this point, but things could change between now and Week 1 of the 2021 season. What’s really going to be interesting though, is whether or not Keanu Neal is part of the equation. That could really shake things up quite a bit.

#3 - Defensive Tackle

One of the Cowboys top priorities this offseason was to upgrade their defensive front. In order to do that they brought free agent DTs Brent Urban and Carlos Watkins and added a couple more via the NFL Draft in Osa Odighizuwa and Quinton Bohana. Those additions, plus Trysten Hill and Neville Gallimore, gives Dallas options to deploy in the trenches, and it’s hard to predict with any kind of accuracy who will emerge as the starters.

#2 - Cornerback

The only thing we really know about the Cowboys cornerback position right now is Trevon Diggs is probably the only CB guaranteed a starting job. Other than that everything is up for grabs. Kelvin Joseph, Anthony Brown, and Jourdan Lewis could all compete for the starting job opposite Diggs and the slot, and to the victor goes the spoils. However, it wouldn’t be a complete shock if a another veteran free agent is added to the mix at some point before the season starts either. This is a position battle definitely worth monitoring.

#1 - Linebacker

All eyes will be on the Cowboys linebackers once offseason practices start getting underway. This will be one position battle that all of Cowboys Nation will be tuning into to see how things play out. Right now, it’s a free-for-all as to who will emerge as the Cowboys starters for the 2021 season. With Micah Parsons and Jabril Cox entering the mix as draft picks and Keanu Neal as a free agent addition, both Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch have been put on notice that their starting jobs are far from guaranteed.
