Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is the betting favorite to win Comeback Player of the Year

Would you take these odds?

Whether or not the Dallas Cowboys will have success this coming season will obviously depend on a number of different factors. Most of the team’s resources in the offseason acquisition period have been devoted to the defensive side of the ball which makes sense given how porous it was last season. It is a teeny bit of a roll of the dice to assume that the offense will be fine without much help, but to be fair there are a lot of players returning who missed most of 2020: Dak Prescott, Blake Jarwin, Tyron Smith, and La’el Collins. That is almost half of the offensive starters.

The group is headlined by Dak Prescott as he is the quarterback, face of the team, and as of this spring the highest-paid player in franchise history.

Football is a team game that has a number of individual awards for players to pick up along the way. The most prestigious individual award is obviously Most Valuable Player and while Prescott should theoretically be in the mix for that there is another award that he is the clear betting favorite for.

Dak Prescott is the betting favorite to win Comeback Player of the Year

The NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year Award is an interesting thing because it isn’t always given to people who are coming back from the same thing. Sometimes the award is given to someone who is returning from an injury, like Prescott will be this season. In other instances, we have seen players who are merely “coming back” from a down season.

All of that being said here are the odds to win Comeback Player of the Year from DraftKings:

  • Dak Prescott, +175
  • Saquon Barkley, +600
  • Joe Burrow, +600
  • Christian McCaffrey, +600
  • Nick Bosa, +700
  • Carson Wentz, +900
  • Sam Darnold, +1600
  • Derwin James, +1600
  • Von Miller, +1600
  • Joe Mixon, +2000
  • Jameis Winston, +2000
  • Odell Beckham Jr., +2500
  • Danielle Hunter, +3300
  • Julio Jones, +3300
  • Tim Tebow, +3300
  • Jimmy Garoppolo, +5000
  • Damien Williams, +8000
  • Dont’a Hightower, +10000
  • CJ Mosley, +10000
  • Kyle Long, +15000

As noted, not every player here is returning from some sort of injury. Some guys like Carson Wentz are “coming back” from down years. It is hardly logical to lump them all together in the running for the same award, but that is often what the NFL does with Comeback Player of the Year.

Prescott should be the favorite for the award as all signs point to a positive return with him. Mike McCarthy noted last week that Dak should be ready to go by training camp, all signs seem to be pointing up here.
