It isn’t breaking news to any Dallas Cowboys fan that their favorite team is often connected to free agents or players who want to leave their current team. That is why over this past weekend a lot of Cowboys fans knew not to make a big deal out of a photo that made its way to social media, a photo of Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones wearing a Dallas Cowboys hoodie.
While this photo is definitely strange given that Jones plays for the Falcons, it’s the fact that there had been many reports prior to the weekend about his team potentially trading him that gave this photo a bit more life in the minds of some. If Jones was on the trade market and was wearing a piece of Cowboys gear, well, those are two dots that can technically be connected.
The Cowboys of course have one of the best wide receiver groups in the NFL in Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb, so a trade never really held up logically. On Monday, whatever life this story had was extinguished by the wide receiver himself.
It is unclear whether Julio Jones knew that he was on live television, but Shannon Sharpe literally called him while on the air during Monday’s episode of Undisputed. The receiver can be heard saying that he has no interest in Dallas and that he is “out of there” when it comes to his current team.
Did Julio know he was live?? Wow. Big stuff here. pic.twitter.com/WTp8bJRckP— Ari Meirov (@AriMeirov) May 24, 2021
Again, it never made sense for the Cowboys to be a potential suitor for Jones, but surely there are some around the league who will be interested. For what it’s worth, the Cowboys will host the Atlanta Falcons in Week 10 of this season and Dan Quinn will get an opportunity to face his former team. We will obviously all be interested to see whether or not Jones is on the Falcons roster at that time.
The Cowboys did land a receiver on Monday. They signed Johnnie Dixon. So that’s that.
