It’s the fourth training camp practice in Oxnard for the Dallas Cowboys. Tomorrow the pads come on and things take a big jump, but there is still plenty to watch. And the very first didn’t take long to walk onto the field.
Hooker szn! (Keep your mind out of the gutter.)

Dallas had to make a roster move as well.
Malik Hooker is officially signed. Mitch Hyatt is on injured reserve #DallasCowboys

Cowboys signed safety Malik Hooker following his workout today. He’s currently in stretch line with team. Been speaking with his new teammates and DC Dan Quinn. Hooker is No. 28. OT Mitch Hyatt (knee) moved from PUP to IR. pic.twitter.com/sCZBF11R8S

Something else to watch as the wear and tear of camp sets in.
Jourdan Lewis is starting practice with the trainers

Or maybe not.
Anae too. Doesn’t mean they won’t practice. Dak starts on the cords each day too. They have their helmets. https://t.co/eXKzJzCdnY

HBO does not seem to be affecting things.
#Cowboys' Zack Martin told @dfwticket Hard Knocks has not been a distraction at training camp.
— Mark Lane (@therealmarklane) July 27, 2021
"They do a good job of staying away, and being in Dallas, you kind of get used to cameras all over the place all of the time. So, it hasn't really been a distraction for us at all."
And the fun stuff begins. Dak doing his thing,

Wonder why Zeke is working on this?

After a short break, Cooper Rush returns.

Your 2021 linebackers.
Looking for the violence and the fundamentals of the linebackers. Aiming to finish through. #CowboysCamp pic.twitter.com/10O5tfCckW

Special teams work is important, too.

Dak’s already working the refs.
When the ref ruled this out of bounds, Dak said “oh c’mon now. you gotta go under the booth.”
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) July 27, 2021
Sorry, man. Very much out of bounds. pic.twitter.com/8zifIgeugE
Got a feeling there’s a big year coming for CeeDee. This connection is a beauty.

More of this, please.
Great example of a cornerback coming off his man to grab an INT. Trevon Diggs continues his strong camp with another pickoff. @dallascowboys #CowboysNation @SportsDayDFW pic.twitter.com/dDKEcMSsQN

Hurry up. Dak to Cedrick Wilson. pic.twitter.com/bitaS7bKMX

Big Q sighting!
So far in today’s practice, watching rookie DT Quinton Bohanna grabbing Tony Pollard in the open field and making sure he didn’t get past him was the best thing I’ve seen. Big boy can move for 330+
— Nick Eatman (@nickeatman) July 27, 2021
Trevon having himself a camp.
Diggs picks off DiNucci in endzone
— Shan Shariff (@1053SS) July 27, 2021
Trevon Diggs with the second pick of the day. This time in the red zone during team drills. Seems like he means business with the whole “14 picks thing” #CowboysCamp
— Kyle Youmans (@Kyle_Youmans) July 27, 2021
Trevon Diggs just TOOK OVER this practice @1053thefan. 3 big plays vs Dak offense including endzone pick to end drive.

Have I mentioned that they need to get Zeke more involved in the passing game?

There is more to pass rush than sacks.
Length showing on the Cowboys’ defensive line. Three batted passes during a two-minute 11-on-11 period. Quinton Bohanna, Justin Hamilton and Brent Urban each got hand on football.
— Michael Gehlken (@GehlkenNFL) July 27, 2021
We’re trying not to get too pumped. But it’s HAAAAARD!
— Blogging The Boys (@BloggingTheBoys) July 27, 2021
That name keeps popping up.
How about some rookie reps.
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) July 27, 2021
Pretty sure Quinton Bohanna got a sack here, but DiNucci extended the play & Israel Mukuamu gets the PBU. Clearly thought he should’ve had a pick. pic.twitter.com/n92efR2AgD
Roster note.
Worth noting that Jourdan Lewis is out today, and Maurice Canady is currently handling the slot for the first-string defense.
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) July 27, 2021
As soon as I say that, Canady breaks up a pass intended for Malik Turner. pic.twitter.com/NtnqXJY1GI

Don’t like this. Nope, nope, nope.
This sounds terrifying https://t.co/H6eS5vPn4b
— Blogging The Boys (@BloggingTheBoys) July 27, 2021
Crisis hopefully averted.
I think Mike is ok lol. Though he was out of bounds here. little Hail Mary work. pic.twitter.com/85eXFoSk7t

Told you the defense was feeling themselves.

TE1A or TE1B?

— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) July 27, 2021
Like I said...
Blake Jarwin with his first 11-on-11 reps and had reception for first down, then touchdown grab over the middle of the field.
— Kyle Youmans (@Kyle_Youmans) July 27, 2021
“What about Schultz” you ask? Caught a wide open touchdown from 20 yards out on the next play. #CowboysCamp
Looks like someone wants to make sure we don’t forget about him.

Offense makes a bit of a comeback.
Hail Mary! pic.twitter.com/7IF0cJ4PPC
— RJ Choppy (@rjchoppy) July 27, 2021
And things wrap up with what looks like a W for the D on the day.
Practice over. Defense balled out today: PBUs, batted down passes, at least a couple picks by Kazee and Maurice Canady. Really active on all levels in situational team drills.

Pads come on tomorrow, so be ready for even more goodness!
