This is an important practice for the Dallas Cowboys. It is the first time that the team will wear pads since they started training camp in Oxnard. The intensity is sure to go up and we’ll get to find out a little more about some positions, especially the offensive and defensive lines.
As noted previously, Michael Gallup will be sitting today’s practice out.
Cowboys WR Michael Gallup limited to mental reps today in first padded practice of training camp. Tweaked ankle when he flipped over practice-field fence Tuesday behind end zone. Ailment not considered serious. Gallup watching fellow WRs work in drills. pic.twitter.com/NO5guV6jDI

Another injury note.
Mike McCarthy said Malik Hooker will be brought along slowly today and Jourdan Lewis will be limited in some fashion with an undisclosed injury. McCarthy said Lewis’ health issue isn’t serious.

Dak Prescott with an extended conversation with head trainer Jim Maurer. They were looking at his right arm. He started throwing in one on one's with wr and did. And stopped. pic.twitter.com/u4IjgY0Qqy

Dak Prescott has not taken many reps during the one on one drills. He spent time talking with head athletic trainer Jim Maurer but it doesn’t appear to be related to the ankle at all. Will update as practice continues. pic.twitter.com/CPGioCFD1W

I dunno what the deal is with Dak, but he did just jog off the field and into the locker room.
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) July 28, 2021
Dak Prescott just jogged into the locker room as more team drills continue. A sign that it’s not his ankle obviously. When practice ends hope to get an update.

AND THE VERDICT ON DAK...
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has soreness in throwing arm. Felt it while warming up. Decided he didn’t want to push it. “Purely precautionary,” team spokesperson said.
— Michael Gehlken (@GehlkenNFL) July 28, 2021
We were just told that Dak Prescott felt some soreness in his throwing arm while warming up. He didn’t want to push it with some of the deep throws he was about to work on in practice. He went into the locker room to have it evaluated by a team doctor. He’s not concerned about it
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) July 28, 2021
Source: Dak Prescott left practice because he’s dealing w/ a muscle pull. That accounts for the arm soreness.

Hmm, is “in the vicinity” code for getting cooked?
In a scramble drill, Dalton Schultz catches a TD pass in 7-7. Jaylon Smith was in the vicinity.

Kind of a cheap interception, but it counts.
Great look at an interception by Israel Mukuamu. Play call was a ‘late game’ 3rd & 15, DiNucci trying to make a play. #CowboysCamp pic.twitter.com/8PxPgc1Rp1

Lots of establishing the run in this potion of practice. Getting a couple good pops of the pads on Zeke, Pollard and offensive front. #CowboysCamp

Maurice Canady taking advantage of his time.
Maurice Canady with his second interception in as many days in team drills. Just got one off Ben DiNucci across the middle
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) July 28, 2021
CB Maurice Canady is having another stellar day. He has filled in for Jourdan Lewis in the slot and just tallied another interception. Outstanding ball tracking and instincts. Standout in the Cowboys’ secondary so far.

Anthony Brown getting in on the act.
Defense getting after it again today. Hell of an effort by Anthony Brown to bring in this INT of Garrett Gilbert. pic.twitter.com/Ncyg2WM6AN

Interceptions everywhere!
Cowboys have five interceptions so far in practice during 11-on-11 periods, including by LB Micah Parsons, CB Maurice Canady (second straight day), CB Anthony Brown and this one by S Darian Thompson on Garrett Gilbert overthrow. pic.twitter.com/e26UjHHb40

Let’s hear it for one of the Connors.
My standout performer on the offensive line today is Connor McGovern at RG. The dude has looked really stout with whatever the defensive line has thrown at him. #CowboysCamp
