The Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans are set to face off this Saturday in a game that will undoubtedly be way-too-overly hyped as a showdown within the state of Texas. Yawn. Truth be told this game will definitely be the most interesting preseason one to date, but it will also be void of a few notable Cowboys starters (the full list is still to be determined) which means we have to enter the contest with some moderate expectations.
Still, this game will provide a number of players the opportunities they need to establish their places on the roster, either moving up the roster, or just hanging on.
We put together a preview show on the Blogging The Boys YouTube Channel (subscribe right here), something that we will be doing all throughout the season, where we took a look at some of the major storylines going into this game. Obviously Dak Prescott’s likely absence is among those. You can watch it right here.
But we also discussed a variety of other topics as well. BTB’s own Tony Catalina stopped by to discuss the things that he wants to see throughout this game and strong play from the young defensive backs was at the very top of his list.
Within our preview shows we also offer a Film Room component where Matt Minich discusses three players that we need to keep an eye on (during the regular season this focus will be on players from the opposing team).
This week is still about certain players trying to up their stock which is where Matt focused:
- DT Justin Hamilton
- DE Dorance Armstrong
- WR Simi Fehoko
Hamilton has been presented a bit more of an opportunity with Neville Gallimore having to miss some time. The snaps will be there, it simply is now just a matter of whether or not he is going to be able to capitalize on them.
Dorance Armstrong has been one of the more surprising players on the team lately and if the Cowboys can finally get something solid out of him then their defensive line rotation could be even better than we were all hoping for.
Finally on the subject of Simi Fehoko, he had a crucial fourth down catch last week, but it would be nice to see that on a more consistent basis throughout an entire game.
Every week on the Blogging The Boys YouTube Channel we have a preview show where we look at the upcoming game, discuss major storylines, dive into the film room, and share our predictions.
