Cowboys news: Donovan Wilson taken off practice field, Damontae Kazee absent early as COVID precaution

Things are delicate at safety right now for the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys have one final preseason game left that will take place on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and they will likely only field reserve players who are battling for the very last roster spots.

Ultimately, though, they might have trouble fielding anybody this week at the safety position. We found out on Monday that the Cowboys added three players to the Reserve/COVID-19 list that Carlos Watkins was already on (he and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn left AT&T Stadium on Saturday prior to the game against the Houston Texans out of an abundance of caution). CeeDee Lamb, Malik Hooker, and Israel Mukuamu joined him.

Mike McCarthy said during his Tuesday press conference that the team would not be adding any more players to that list, but that doesn’t mean that the Cowboys aren’t being cautious. Apparently safety Damontae Kazee was held out as a precaution while Donovan Wilson was escorted off of the practice field.

The report also noted that Kazee is away from the facility until the precautionary period is over and that the team worked with Jayron Kearse and Darian Thompson at safety in light of all of the absences. Altogether that is four safeties who were out (Hooker, Mukuamu, Wilson, and Kazee).

We will have to wait and see what ultimately comes of this situation regarding Kazee and Wilson. Hopefully all is well.
