The Dallas Cowboys have gotten down to 53 players on their roster as mandated by the NFL. You can check out the current roster here. But that will be changing soon. Dallas currently has five players on the Reserve/COVID list as of today when they moved wide receiver Noah Brown onto it. The list now includes CeeDee Lamb, Connor Williams, Damontae Kazee, Carlos Watkins and Brown. Out of those five, there is a strong likelihood that all five will be moved to the roster soon. Only Watkins and Brown might be question marks, but it is 99.9% likely they will make the final 53 when all the dust settles.
Those five are currently not counting against the 53-man roster limit, but they soon will. That means the Cowboys are going to have to make some moves to get them back on the roster. That will almost certainly include moving players to IR. As we previously noted, there were six players that were thought to be on their way to IR.
Cowboys had three IR-to-return guys before today: Neville Gallimore, Sean McKeon, Josh Ball. Might have three more: Kelvin Joseph (groin), Frances Bernard (hamstring), Malik Turner (foot). They need to be on roster for today and then can go to IR. Would miss at least 3 games.

That right there would open up spots for the returning players. The Cowboys also released long-snapper Jake McQuaide but he is expected to be brought back tomorrow. They likely needed a sixth spot for the IR guys on the roster today since there were only five players on the COVID list that didn’t count against the 53.
The Cowboys also cut the deep snapper. He will be brought back tomorrow as well when they move guys to IR.

In some other news, Trysten Hill went on the PUP list and is not on the 53-man roster. He will miss at least the first six games of the season.
The Cowboys went short at quarterback (two) and running back (two), and will only have two healthy tight ends once they move McKeon to IR as anticipated. One could surmise that moves may be coming in those areas, possibly from outside help.
Guys like DE Azur Kamara, LB Luke Gifford and OL Matt Farniok probably shouldn’t get too comfortable if the Cowboys decide to add some help from the outside.
