The dark clouds have just gotten a little darker around the Dallas Cowboys. Earlier it was reported that DeMarcus Lawrence had suffered a foot injury in practice and was removed from that practice. Now, the are reports circulating that Lawrence has fractured his foot.

Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence fractured his foot in today’s practice, source said. An extensive absence ahead. Terrible development for team’s top defender.

It is not known yet whether Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence will miss rest of season, source said. But he is obviously headed to injured reserve. Brutal blow. @JoeTrahan first reported a broken foot for Lawrence. https://t.co/muylSPxBlk

These reports mesh with some of the things we were hearing immediately after the injury. For instance:
There is real concern about Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence’s availability Sunday vs. Chargers, sources said. He suffered a foot injury in practice today, prompting his news conference afterward to be canceled. Possible Cowboys are without both starting DEs vs. Justin Herbert. https://t.co/nZZ7ojISsm

When things are treated this way immediately following an injury it is usually because there is real concern that a serious injury has occurred. To make matters worse for the Cowboys, they will likely be without Randy Gregory this week because of COVID. The Cowboys could be in a position of starting Tarell Basham and Dorance Armstrong at defensive end this week.
Long-term, the Cowboys have bigger problems as Lawrence is their best player on defense and a centerpiece of their pass rush. Early optimism from after the Bucs game is being tested now.
