The Dallas Cowboys were dealt a critical blow on Wednesday when it was announced that defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence broke his foot during practice. Having your best defensive player taken away is hardly an ideal situation for any team, especially one already down a number of starters.
Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers was already going to be challenging, but it is now even more so given Lawrence’s absence. Coach Mike McCarthy addressed a few things during his press conference on Thursday including that Lawrence had surgery.
DeMarcus Lawrence has had surgery on his foot
As mentioned DeMarcus Lawrence has had surgery on his foot. The road to recovery starts now.
DeMarcus Lawrence had surgery on his broken foot Thursday, according to Mike McCarthy. Lawrence will miss 6-8 weeks but McCarthy said he believes Lawrence will return this season.

If Lawrence returns after eight weeks that would put him back around the middle of November which is Week 10. The Cowboys host the Atlanta Falcons that week before visiting the Kansas City Chiefs and then the quick turnaround for Thanksgiving against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Leon Lett also had surgery
Tank was not the only person who has played along the Dallas Cowboys defensive line to sustain an injury on Wednesday. Assistant defensive line coach Leon Lett injured his quad and needed surgery as well.
Like DE DeMarcus Lawrence, Cowboys assistant defensive line coach Leon Lett also underwent surgery. He injured right quad tendon during sled work to begin practice Wednesday, coach Mike McCarthy said.

Lett won’t travel to Los Angeles this weekend for Sunday’s game vs. Chargers.
The Dallas Cowboys defensive line could conceivably be without their top two players and one of their coaches this week.
Randy Gregory remains in COVID protocol
Early this week the Cowboys announced that Randy Gregory had tested positive for COVID-19. On Wednesday McCarthy expressed doubt that Gregory would play this week. He remains in the protocol.
Randy Gregory is still in the COVID protocol.

All the best to Randy Gregory.
Donovan Wilson will miss practice again on Thursday
Safety Donovan Wilson dealt with a groin injury as the preseason ended and while he played last week against Tampa Bay he is still dealing with it. He missed practice on Wednesday and will be out again on Thursday.
Cowboys starting strong safety Donovan Wilson is dealing with a groin injury. He didn’t practice yesterday and won’t practice today. If he can’t play Sunday, look for more reps for Jayron Kearse and a regular season Cowboys debut for Malik Hooker

The Cowboys might actually be without three starters on defense on Sunday.
