The 41-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football moved the Dallas Cowboys into sole possession of the NFC East division. This was by no means a close game. The Cowboys dominated from the get-go, and in so doing, proved to the league they are a team to be reckoned with.
The Dallas Cowboys have faced off against three tough opponents to kick off the 2021 season and responded by arguably playing better than all three. Sadly, a missed 31-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein combined with a botched offensive pass interference call in kept them from being undefeated, but there’s no point in dwelling on that because things are only starting to heat up.
With the Week 3 victory the books, the Cowboys now set their sights on the 3-0 Carolina Panthers. After playing Monday night, the noon kickoff Sunday means the Cowboys have a short week to prepare, which could be a blessing and a curse. Before we get into next week’s opponent though, let’s take a look at this week’s good, bad, and ugly from the Eagles game.
THE GOOD - Trevon Diggs’ keeps INT streak alive
When is the last time the Dallas Cowboys had a difference making playmaker in the secondary? Well, through three weeks of the 2021 season it definitely looks as if they have such a player in their second-year cornerback Trevon Diggs. Diggs has now recorded an interception in three straight games, one of which was a pick six in prime time on Monday Night Football off of his former teammate Jalen Hurts. No. 7 is tied for the lead in interceptions (three) right now and will look to continue his streak next week against the Carolina Panthers.
THE BAD - Officials take away a TD from Dak Prescott
By now we should all know the Cowboys should expect no help from the officials on game day and that was certainly the case last night against the Eagles. Feel free to shout conspiracy if you want, but it was pretty clear from replays a quarterback sneak for a touchdown by Dak Prescott was stolen away from the Cowboys. Pick any angle you want, it was painfully obvious Prescott had his entire torso across the goal line, and yet, the officials didn’t see it that way. Luckily, the poor officiating didn’t come back to bite them in the end.
THE UGLY - Greg Zuerlein continues to be streaky
Dallas Cowboys kicker Greg Zuerlein continues to be a bit streaky after missing his second extra point attempt through three games of the 2021 season. It’s beginning to look as if it’s going to be a hold your breath kind of moment anytime the veteran is asked to attempt a field goal or extra point from now on until he can find his footing (pun intended). It’s difficult to know for sure if it’s just a lack of focus on Zuerlein’s part or if he’s still not quite 100% after offseason back surgery. Whatever it is, he needs to figure it out sooner rather than later because Dallas can’t afford to leave points on the field.
