The Dallas Cowboys are inching closer and closer to their season kickoff against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and when the game finally begins there will be an expectation for offensive stars to shine.
Football fans have spent an enormous amount of time talking about Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb on the Dallas side while worrying about Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, Rob Gronkowski and others on the Tampa side. Whether you are just talking about these two teams or poring over their rosters during your fantasy football draft there is always one player overlooked and that is Michael Gallup.
Cowboys fans are well-aware of Gallup’s skills as a wide receiver and are actually so familiar with them that we are already nauseous over the idea of the team losing him in free agency next offseason. 2021 is a contract year for Gallup, and if he continues the trajectory that he has been on for the first three years of his career, it is likely that someone around the NFL (perhaps the Cowboys still) is going to make him a wealthy man.
Thanks to our friends at Sleep Number, we sat down with Michael on Tuesday to get his thoughts on the season, what his goals are, and what he believes he brings to the locker room among other topics. One of the things that stood out was that Gallup was so focused on being the best teammate possible. Many of us grew up in an era where wide receivers had very loud personalities that shined above others in the locker room, but that hasn’t been the way of this Cowboys group. Gallup is a classic example of that.
Chris Godwin is a wide receiver on the other side of this week’s game and was someone who Tampa placed the franchise tag on this past offseason to keep the group together (even for just one more season potentially) as they try to defend their Super Bowl title. Hopefully the Cowboys are in a similar sort of environment where they have to figure out how to keep Gallup and Co. together to try and win two championships in a row in 2022.
Thanks again to Sleep Number for setting up the time with Michael Gallup for us.
