FanPost

A look back at my predictions from August

Let me apologize in advance for the length of this article and the "self-back patting" that is about to happen. Just embrace it and let it engulf you in its warmth.

Before the season started, I wrote up a fanpost. I was already sick and tired of the negativity that runs so rampant here on BtB and those naysayers inspired me (after a couple of adult beverages no doubt) to write something down that had a more positive ring to it. It went as follows:

I am not sure about Garrett Gilbert.

I am also not convinced about Cooper Rush.

I do believe that Cooper Rush is the better option at QB2.

I also believe that if the Cowboys cannot find a better QB2, something is screwy.

I believe that I am not going to worry about Dak’s shoulder. He will be good to go come week 1 in Tampa.

I believe this defense will be better this year. top 20 at the very least. Top 12 in my wildest dreams.

I believe that CeeDee Lamb is going to be the WR1 in Dallas by week 6. And that the WR/TE Group in Dallas could be the best WR/TE group in the NFL. AT LEAST TOP 3.

I believe that I don’t care if I am leaving that last sentence all capitals for no reason.

I believe the Dallas offensive line will be completely intact for 12 weeks of the regular season. It will be a boon to the Cowboys’ success this year.

I believe that Micah Parsons is going to be a great LB in the NFL if he can keep his head in the game. He already looks annoyed at having to answer media questions. Not that I blame him but still….

I believe that Zeke Elliott will run for 1200+ yards and 10+ TD’s this season. Top 5 RB overall. Not the volume but the quality. Tony Pollard will be a top rated backup.

Dak will throw for 5000+ yards this season. It won’t always be pretty. But it will be amazing.

I believe the Cowboys defense will be top 20 this year. I already said that, didn’t I? Still a true statement.

I believe the Cowboys will be the best team in the NFC East this season with the WFT right on their asses. But It will come down to the last weeks of the season. The Giants and Eagles fight for 3rd.

It’s going to be an exciting season.

I still believe.

In re-hashing what I posted, I don’t think I was all too far off!

"I am not sure about Garrett Gilbert.

Cooper Rush became the QB2. While I still think the Cowboys could have done better, I do have to admit he played very well against Minnesota. Where would the Cowboys be without that win? Not the 3-seed that’s for sure!

"I believe that I am not going to worry about Dak’s shoulder. He will be good to go come week 1 in Tampa"

Dak’s shoulder at the time was in question. He had tweaked it or something and it was causing a lot of consternation for some folks on here. He went on to have one hell of a game against Tampa Bay. His shoulder was not an issue.

"I believe this defense will be better this year. top 20 at the very least. Top 12 in my wildest dreams."

The Defense has been lights out! Top 20? Top 12? PSSSSSSHHHHH! Top 5 in many categories! While I do think that I was probably a little more positive about the defense than most on here, I absolutely did not see them becoming this turnover-inducing, sack monster. I don’t know exactly where they rank but it has got to be even higher than I imagined in August. I guess dreams do come true sometimes!

"I believe that CeeDee Lamb is going to be the WR1 in Dallas by week 6. And that the WR/TE Group in Dallas could be the best WR/TE group in the NFL. AT LEAST TOP 3."

Ehhhhh This one is debatable on both fronts. Cincinnati has a hell of a WR group. Tampa Bay did before Godwin got hurt and Antonio Brown lost his damn mind once again. But what other teams have a better WR/TE group than Dallas? I’m probably forgetting a couple. Seattle maybe? But I was pretty close on CeeDee Lamb being the WR1 and the timing. Cooper is still Dak’s guy but CeeDee is the WR1 imo. Now if this group could just clean up the dropsies…

"I believe the Dallas offensive line will be completely intact for 12 weeks of the regular season. It will be a boon to the Cowboys’ success this year."

Not sure if I should give myself the dub on this call. I mean, the Cowboys O Line was actually intact for right around 12 games if I recall correctly. But it has not been a boon to their success of late. Maybe earlier in the season, but they’ve obviously had some struggles down the stretch.

"I believe that Micah Parsons is going to be a great LB in the NFL if he can keep his head in the game. He already looks annoyed at having to answer media questions. Not that I blame him but still…."

NAILED IT! He still looks annoyed at having to answer questions over and over again. I call it his "Resting Lion Face". The man is a beast. King of the NFL Jungle.

The next two fell a bit short but for the sake of this article and my predictions let’s say that the playoffs are going to be included…

"I believe that Zeke Elliott will run for 1200+ yards and 10+ TD’s this season. Top 5 RB overall. Not the volume but the quality. Tony Pollard will be a top rated backup."

"Dak will throw for 5000+ yards this season. It won’t always be pretty. But it will be amazing."

Zeke didn’t quite hit the mark as far as rushing goes in the regular season. At times he has completely disappeared. And Dak didn’t reach 5000+ yards, but when you include what’s coming in the playoffs… maybe I wasn’t that far off after all! And Pollard is absolutely a top rated backup RB!

"I believe the Cowboys defense will be top 20 this year. I already said that, didn’t I? Still a true statement"

No need to re-hash this one.

"I believe the Cowboys will be the best team in the NFC East this season with the WFT right on their asses. But it will come down to the last weeks of the season. The Giants and Eagles fight for 3rd"

This one was mostly out of my pure, unadulterated hatred of the Philadelphia Eagles and their fanbase so I was letting that bias take part in those predictions. WFT is a S***show. NY Giants have imploded. I guess the Eagles aren’t that bad *PUKES UNCONTROLLABLY* I’m glad it didn’t have to come down to the last few weeks of the season.

I got the important one right at least.

"It’s going to be an exciting season. I still believe."

It has been and it’s continuing on into the playoffs against an old rival. I am so stoked for Dallas to be playing against San Fran. At first I thought this would be an easy Dub for Dallas, but the more I look into it, the more I am convinced that this is going to be one hell of a game.

I STILL still believe

Go Cowboys!
