How different could the Cowboys draft have looked if they had accepted the trade with the Titans?

This is just meant to be a thought exercise to see how the Cowboys draft may have looked if they had agreed to trade with the Tennessee Titans on draft night. I’m only going to look at how the first picks might have gone.

Firstly, what would the trade have looked like. Most likely it would have been as follows;

Dallas: Trades pick 24 (740points) to the Titans and receives Pick 26 (700 points) + Pick 131 (41 points).

This would have left Dallas with the following:

Pick 26 (700 points), Pick 56 (340 points), Pick 87 (155 points), Pick 129 (43 points), Pick 131 (41 points)

We now know that the Titans would have taken Smith, and Baltimore would have still taken Linderbaum.

Round 1:

Since we also have the Cowboys draft board up to pick 34, we can also guess who they might have taken. I think there are probably three options:

Lewis Cine (BPA), George Karlaftis (BPA at position of need), Devin Lloyd (if they viewed LB as more valuable than safety). We can add Jermaine Johnson as the draftnik consensus BPA.

Round 2:

If they stay at 56, then it depends who they took at 26.

If Cine or Lloyd, then presumably they would have still taken De Williams.

If it was Karlaftis or Johnson, then perhaps it would have been Luke Goedeke (picked at 57) or Ed Ingram (picked at 59). Unless it was Tolbert.

But what if they packaged up picks, to try and get up the board?

Dallas could package their 2nd and 3rd round pick to get up to position 41:

Pick 56 (340) + Pick 87 (155) to Pick 41 (490)

The only player on their board left at that position is David Ojabo.

They could have thrown in another 5th to maybe move up far enough to get Ebiketie or Gordon.

Dallas could package their 2nd and the pick from the Titans to get up to position 52:

Pick 56 (340) + Pick 131 (41) to Pick 52 (380) from the Steelers

They could have taken their pick of 3 WR that went between pick 52-54. Alec Pierce was the most obvious name linked to the Cowboys. George Pickens or Sky Moore are other options.

Round 3:

If they hadn’t moved at this point, then presumably they would stick with Tolbert, since they wouldn’t have drafted a receiver at this point.

Of course, if they had moved up to take a receiver in Round 2, then the following options were possible (again working off the Cowboys visit list). Myjai Sanders, Jeremy Ruckert, Cade Otton, Perrion Winfrey.

If you wanted to work a trade again, you could maybe get up to 77 to get Raimann (would require the 3rd plus a 4th and 6th) or up to 84 (would require the 3rd plus a late 5th) to get Leal.

After all of that, what are the best potential 3 round draft hauls the Cowboys could have expected?

Best haul via Daniel Jeremiah top 150: Jermaine Johnson (9), Sky Moore (45), Raimann (43) -this loses the extra 4th picked up from the Titans.

Most likely: Karlaftis, Goedeke/Ingram, Tolbert – plus an additional 4th round pick
