KaVontae Turpin is becoming a bigger part of the Cowboys offense and is an explosive element.
That truth was put on full display on one play in particular against Jack Del Rio’s defense, or rather what was once his defense, when Dak Prescott dropped back on 3rd-and-6 in the fourth quarter — the Cowboys standing on a 31-10 lead — to fire a dot down the seam that became a 34-yard touchdown to Turpin.
It was a master class of scheming by McCarthy and execution by Prescott, Turpin and others (e.g., Brandin Cooks forcing the cornerback to pick his poison) that rewarded Turpin with his third receiving touchdown of the season.
“The post route he runs, you can’t run it any better,” said McCarthy of the play. “His angle, his stride, his timing are all stress that he puts on the safety and then you can see the safety react off of Brandin — going off the redline — I think that’s a clear picture of the details and the specifics that Turp is playing with right now.”
In all, he’s delivered four offensive TDs for the Cowboys through 11 games after being zeroed out offensively in 2022. For perspective, he was targeted as a receiver only twice last season.
“He’s gonna continue to grow and he’s done a really good job in that receiver’s room,” McCarthy added. “I’m really proud of that young man.”
Cowboys’ Dak Prescott, Girlfriend Sarah Jane Ramos Announce Pregnancy in IG Photo - Jonathan Adams, Heavy.com
After a spectacular holiday performance beating the Washington Commanders, Dak Prescott has one bigger thing to be thankful for.
Dak Prescott’s girlfriend Sarah Jane Ramos dropped major Dallas Cowboysnews revealing that the couple is expecting a baby girl. Ramos and the typically private star quarterback announced the exciting news on Instagram.
“A little bit of Heaven sent down to Earth Our immeasurable blessing,” Ramos noted during a November 25, 2023 Instagram post. “I cannot wait to raise a strong, confident, beautiful baby girl with you @_4dak.”
Prescott reposted the photo to his own Instagram story. The news comes just two days after Prescott led the Cowboys to a blowout victory over the Commanders on Thanksgiving.
Ramos also recently celebrated her 30th birthday. During a November 18 Instagram post, Ramos shared photos of herself decked out in a Cowboys jacket at AT&T Stadium. Another photo featured Ramos and Prescott enjoying a celebration dinner.
Dak Prescott keeps on winning. His recent play as of late is being recognize by the oddsmakers and is entering the conversation for a special NFL distinction.
It was just nine days ago when we had the conversation. On November 16th we talked here at BTB about how Dallas Cowboys (-6.5) quarterback Dak Prescott’s odds for this season’s MVP awards seemed way too low. The subject of Prescott can often be a divisive one which is why did our best to keep the conversation factually-based and more from a point of confusion than anything else.
In that article we noted that MVP is a partly narrative-driven award and that Dak checks all of the boxes that a Hollywood script writer would want to include in the ideal story. Obviously you have to play well to win the award as well, and since then Dak has continued the top form that he was already on when we last visited this topic.
Prescott’s latest outing happened to occur on Thanksgiving Day and during a game that was seen by just about 41.5M people. Considering he put up another gaudy stat line it stood to reason that his odds for the award in question would rise, but they have taken off to the moon.
Dak Prescott is currently in the top 5 of MVP odds for this season
On Friday morning, a look at the odds for MVP showed that anyone who took Dak at +3500 had to be feeling good about themselves. We are down to the triple digits which is a significant decrease. Prescott is currently listed at DraftKings Sportsbook (the odds we have always been basing this off of) at +850 to win MVP. You can see the current odds (as of late Friday night) in the first slide here and the odds from the past we have been mentioning in the second.
Interestingly the lines moved slightly from Friday morning to Friday night. If you are curious it was Patrick Mahomes who moved up from +425 to +400 and Tua Tagovailoa who moved down (after playing on Black Friday by the way) from +550 to +600.But back to Prescott, he is the only real significant movement here in terms of change between November 16th and 24th. Detroit Lions (-3) quarterback Jared Goff also rose in odds although his performance on Thanksgiving Day will have the inverse effect for his candidacy than Prescott’s given how rough it was.
Now that this week’s festivities are over, we can now turn our attention to this weekend’s NFL games. The Cowboys are one win behind the Philadelphia Eagles and the playoff picture is started to look clearer with each passing week. Here are what your rooting interest should be today.
Bills over Eagles
The Cowboys still have a shot at winning the NFC East. According to the New York Times playoff probabilities, they have about a nine percent chance of winning the division. They are going to need help, though. The Eagles win over the Chiefs gave them a 9-1 record to the Cowboys 8-3 mark. The Eagles already have a head-to-head win so the Cowboys just get one more chance to hand the Eagles a loss and make up ground in the playoff race.
Essentially, the Cowboys need two surprise losses for the Eagles and they need to run the table the rest of the season. One of those surprise losses could come this week against a Buffalo Bills team that has their back against the proverbial wall. According to the New York Times, the Bills can elevate their playoff chances from around 29 percent to 45 percent with a win over the Eagles. Their odds shrink to 19 percent with a loss.
The Bills seemed to get the offense back on track with a 32-6 win over the Jets last week. When Josh Allen is playing his best, the Bills have a shot at beating anyone. With the 49ers up next week against the Eagles, they could ostensibly be on a two-game skid when the Cowboys meet them again in Week 14. That’s the best possible scenario for the Cowboys NFC East hopes because the Eagles finish up with the New York Giants (twice), Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals.
Bears over Vikings
There isn’t much of a chance that anyone is going to catch Dallas for the No. 5 seed. At 8-3, the next closest wildcard team right now are the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks. Both are 6-5. The Cowboys have a two-game cushion, but it doesn’t hurt to watch the other wildcard teams prove they are mediocre over the final stretch of the season. In that spirit, fans should be rooting for the Vikings to falter against the Bears in an NFC North Monday Night Football matchup. The Bears are eliminated from the playoff race, but they still have plenty to play for.
Chicago might wind up with the No. 1 pick because they own 1-9 Carolina’s pick. That means Justin Fields could be playing to convince his franchise that they don’t need to take a quarterback with that pick. That plays in Dallas’ favor as the Bears really don’t have reason to tank. With Fields returning to the lineup for the first time since Week 5, the offense looked explosive in a close 31-26 loss to the Detroit Lions. That gives them a fighting chance to pull off an upset and widen the distance between Dallas the other wildcard teams.
