The Dallas Cowboys need a streak-busting win this week. Their road woes have saddled them with two straight losses, something they avoided for a couple of years. The Cowboys get a break this week as they return home to AT&T Stadium, a place that has been a veritable fortress for them over the past couple of seasons. They have a 15-game home winning streak on the line this week against a quality opponent.
The Detroit Lions, fresh off an NFC North-clinching win, will bring their 11-4 record into Texas for a showdown of prolific offenses. The scoreboard should be working hard in this one as both teams score points. It’s likely going to come down to which defense plays a little better, or is more opportunistic with the turnovers.
Let’s see what some other sites say about the game.
Dallas, however, is 6-1 ATS as a home favorite and they have won those by an average of 24.4 points per game. This line could push toward seven by kickoff, but we’ll take a chance on a playoff-type close game. Give us Prescott leading another potential game-winning drive with a touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb in the clutch.
Pick: Cowboys 27, Lions 24
The Cowboys winning by a few points, but not covering the spread is a popular pick this week.
The Cowboys have lost two straight, but they are in the playoffs. The Lions clinched the division last week, but are playing for seeding. Detroit is playing consecutive road games, while Dallas is home for the first time in three weeks. Look for the Cowboys to get back on track after two losses with an impressive game for both offense and the defense.
Pick: Cowboys 31, Lions 23
This is more of a decisive win in the Cowboys favor, covering the spread. We’ve seen a few of these, too.
Lorenzo Reyes: Cowboys 24, Lions 21
Dallas is a pristine 7-0 straight up at home and 6-1 against the spread. The Cowboys have lost and failed to cover two in a row, but those were on the road. The problem is that Detroit is also fighting for playoff seeding and is 6-2 against the spread in road games. I like the Cowboys to win, but six is a big number here.
Tyler Dragon: Cowboys 26, Lions 25
This NFC battle is one of the games of the week. The Cowboys are 7-0 at home and 3-5 on the road. Luckily for the Cowboys, this one is in the comfortable environment of AT&T Stadium. The Lions have scored 72 combined points in two weeks. This one might be a high-scoring affair, but the Cowboys have a better defense.
Everybody seems to think the Cowboys will win the game, but not everyone sees a big win.
Most of our experts picked Dallas to win, though Knox explains why Detroit will cover the spread.
“I don’t think we’ll see the Cowboys lose at home, even against a quality team like Detroit,” Knox said. “Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense have simply been too consistent in Arlington, Texas, while the Detroit D has shown significant cracks in recent weeks.
“However, I can see an offensive track meet similar to the Cowboys-Seahawks matchup of Week 13. Dallas’ defense has struggled against the run—it got dominated by Buffalo and then couldn’t prevent Miami from grinding out a final drive—and the tandem of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery is terrific.
“Expect fireworks here and for Dallas to win a close one with a late drive or key stop.”
Score Prediction: Cowboys 34, Lions 30
We have a consensus, Dallas wins. Not a consensus, covering the spread.
