Tonight’s Thursday Night Football game features a clash between the visiting New York Jets and the host Cleveland Browns.
This is an open thread for game chat.
Below some of the BTB staff made game picks using Tallysight. Check them out and the explanation for the picks.
Dave Halprin: It’s hard to think of a reason not to take the Browns to cover the spread and beat the Jets. Cleveland's defense is top-notch, and Joe Flacco has saved them on offense. The Jets are playing out the string.
Tom Ryle: It feels very weird to state that Joe Flacco gives the Browns a leg up over the Jets, but in the year of the backup to the backup quarterback, here we are. Of course, Amari Cooper (where have we heard that name?) makes a huge difference. Both teams have strong defenses, but that still comes down to trusting Flacco more than Trevor Siemian. A lot more, like 10 or more points.
David Howman: The Browns suddenly look genuinely good, and Joe Flacco may be their best QB of the season. That’s insane to think about, but Cleveland is rolling. Meanwhile, the Jets are a scrappy team but not good enough to beat good teams. I’ll take the Browns winning 25-22.
Matt Holleran: Who would have thought the Joe Flacco-led Browns would be one of the best teams in the league. I have a hard time seeing the Jets’ offense putting up much a fight in this game so I’ll take Cleveland to win in a low-scoring game. Give me the Browns, 20-13.
Brian Martin: With Joe Flacco at the helm at QB, and with one of the better defenses in the league, the Cleveland Browns suddenly look like one of the more complete and dangerous teams in the entire NFL. They should have no trouble steamrolling the New York Jets on TNF.
RJ Ochoa: There is nothing in the world that could convince me that the New York Jets are capable of winning on Thursday night. I would take literally any other team over them. That the Browns happen to be rolling right now happens to make the decision all the more easy. Give me Cleveland and no more Thursday night games, please.
OCC: Both teams are down to their fourth QBs with Joe Flacco for the Browns and Trevor Siemian for the Jets. Flacco is coming off a 368-yard game against the Texans and now probably thinks he’s Dan Marino or something. The Jets defense will show him he’s not, just as the Browns defense will make clear why Siemian is the fourth option for the Jets. Expect at least four interceptions and even more turnovers in a fun-filled TNF football game that the Browns eventually win.
