The stage has been set for what is shaping up to be a grudge match between two NFC East division rivals, the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. With the division title hanging in the balance, we can probably expect a slobber-knocker type of game were both teams are going for the jugular in this Week 14 matchup.
It was a close, hard-fought game the first time these two teams met back in Week 9 this season, with Philadelphia managing to secure the win due to a a little good fortune/luck. Things just so happened to bounce the Eagles way in that matchup, but the Cowboys will be looking to flip the script this time around in order to inflict a little a revenge.
In order to help themselves, we are going to take a look at a few things the Cowboys can do to help sway the game in their favor. With the way they've been playing lately, and with the home-field advantage this week, Dallas enters this matchup as 3-point favorites already. Today, we'll discuss how they can increase those odds even more.
Limit the laundry
Seeing the yellow penalty flag being thrown against the Cowboys has been pretty commonplace so far this season. Just last week they accumulated nine penalties for 127 yards against the Seattle Seahawks, but luckily were able to still find a way to win. If they want to give themselves the best chance of winning this Week 14 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, they need to find some way to limit the laundry. Overcoming these self-inflicted wounds will become much more difficult the remainder of the season considering the caliber teams remaining on their schedule. If they can clean this one area up, they would helps themselves immensely moving forward.
Win the turnover battle
The team that typically wins the turnover battle more times than not is the one that walks away with the victory. That was certainly the case in Week 9 in the first meeting between these two teams. Despite fumbling the ball three times, the Eagles were able to recover each one of them. The Cowboys, on the other hand, fumbled twice, losing one of them. While there are other factors why Dallas ended up losing that game 28-23, had they won the turnover battle things could've gone differently. If they can flip things around in their favor this time around turnover wise, they’d give themselves a much better chance at securing their fifth win in a row.
Dak keep being Dak
After the Dallas Cowboys come from behind victory over the Seattle Seahawks and the Philadelphia Eagles blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13, Dak Prescott has surpassed Jalen Hurts as the favorite to become the 2023 NFL MVP, and rightfully so. Dak is currently playing like the best QB in the entire league right now and already lit up Philadelphia's secondary in Week 9, throwing for 374 yards and three touchdowns. There's no reason to believe No. 4 can't have similar success in this Week 14 matchup considering how the Eagles defense has been shredded through the air all season.
