The Dallas Cowboys are one of the better teams in the NFL right now, but nobody hands out trophies for that being the case on December 5th. As true as it is that the Cowboys are in a prominent position, the only way that they can get rid of the shadow that has been hanging over the head of the franchise for just about three decades is if they make some serious noise in the playoffs. The trouble with that is you have to get into the playoffs in order to make noise in them.
Thankfully for us that has become quite commonplace around here throughout the Mike McCarthy era. Dallas is on the precipice of reaching the postseason for the third year in a row, a feat that the franchise hasn’t accomplished since 1994-1996.
We are officially at the time of the year where the Cowboys can punch their ticket if certain things go their way. Here are their playoff-clinching scenarios for Week 14.
Dallas Cowboys playoff berth-clinching scenarios for Week 14
- Cowboys Win + Vikings loss/tie + Packers loss/tie + Seahawks loss + Buccaneers loss/tie + Lions win/tie + Rams loss/tie
- Cowboys Win + Vikings loss/tie + Packers loss/tie + Seahawks loss + Buccaneers loss/tie + Lions win/tie + Saints loss/tie
- Cowboys Win + Vikings loss/tie + Packers loss/tie + Seahawks loss + Buccaneers tie + Lions win/tie
For what it is worth these scenarios are all viable only if the Packers and Vikings do not both tie. Obviously the odds of that happening is unlikely, but if they were to in fact to each draw then the Cowboys could not clinch this week. The more you know.
It is certainly great to see that the Cowboys have a chance at clinching as soon as the first week of December. Here are the games in question so that you know everything involved.
- Cowboys vs. Eagles (SNF)
- Vikings at Raiders
- Packers at Giants (MNF)
- Seahawks at 49ers
- Buccaneers at Falcons
- Lions at Bears
- Rams at Ravens
- Saints vs. Panthers
The odds of enough things happening to clinch the Cowboys a playoff berth this week are obviously a bit long, but it is technically possible.
It goes without saying that for the Cowboys to have a chance at clinching this week they have to take care of business themselves and beat Philadelphia. Even if Dallas does not have a formal ticket as of Morning, a win is obviously the most important thing in that it keeps alive hope for the NFC East title and/or top overall seed in the conference.
Looks like we are in for a fun week.
