The re-match is almost here. The Dallas Cowboys host the Philadelphia Eagles in a game that has all the makings of an NFC East classic. The Cowboys are chasing the Eagles in the division, but if they win on Sunday they will take over the lead, even if it doesn’t give them full control of the division.
The Eagles are coming off a lopsided loss to the San Francisco 49ers and definitely don’t want to drop two in a row. They could lose their iron grip on the division, and they would have been beaten by two of the NFC’s elite teams in back-to-back games. They have plenty of motivation.
The Cowboys are riding a four-game win streak, a 14-game home winning streak, and need this game if they are going to make any play for the NFC East and top seeding in the conference. Dallas has a brutal stretch of games starting with the Eagles, then the Bills, Dolphins and Lions. It’s a tough road, but any hope of moving up in playoff seedings starts this week with the Eagles.
Let’s see what some other sites say about the game.
The Eagles ran into a buzzsaw with no comeback in sight vs. the 49ers as their pass defense got ripped again by a diverse, dynamic downfield attack. The Cowboys just fell short of winning in Philadelphia in Week 9. Since then the Cowboys have won four straight with dominant offense led by Dak Prescott. Dallas is perfect at home this season but its coverage scheme can allow the Eagles to stay in it well with Jalen Hurts digging deep to make plays. The Cowboys just have too much firepower to be denied here a second time.
Pick: Cowboys win 34-31 but fail to cover the spread.
Nobody thinks this game will be a blowout. Some have the Cowboys winning, but not by enough to cover the spread like here.
Yes, the Cowboys are a stellar 5-1 ATS at home. Yes, they have an average margin of victory of 25.2 at AT&T Stadium. I’m still taking the Eagles not only to cover with the 3.5 points in their pocket, but to win outright. While they’ve put together some impressive wins by how they’ve blown out some of their opponents, I don’t think the Cowboys are battle-tested. They were able to get a win against Seattle last Thursday (their first win against an above .500 team), but it was by the skin of their teeth. And the Seahawks might not even be that great of a team. The Eagles are much more trustworthy in my mind even after their blowout loss to the Niners at home on Sunday.
Projected score: Eagles 28, Cowboys 24
But you can find plenty of prognosticators taking the Eagles this week. Given the Cowboys schedule up to this point, there isn’t full belief in Dallas just yet.
Lorenzo Reyes: Eagles 21, Cowboys 17
Although it’s clear the Eagles are flawed, I have a hard time seeing Philly dropping two in a row. And while Dak Prescott is playing out of his mind, the Cowboys’ rushing attack has underwhelmed and the defense yielded a lot of explosive plays last week against the Seahawks. Either way, I think this one is close.
Tyler Dragon: Eagles 28, Cowboys 26
The Eagles have a sour taste in their mouth after getting demolished at home against the 49ers. A win versus the Cowboys would be a good remedy. Jalen Hurts has 16 career games with both a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown. The Cowboys have a four-game stretch against Philadelphia, Buffalo, Miami and Detroit. We’ll find out who the Cowboys are in December.
Here is another case of the Cowboys not having the buy in from many in the media.
This is the game of the week. The Eagles have big defensive issues, which you don’t want going against this high-flying Dallas offense. The Cowboys didn’t look good on defense against Seattle, either. The Eagles won the earlier meeting, but this time the Cowboys get revenge in a high-scoring game.
Pick: Cowboys 34, Eagles 30
We close with a pick for the Cowboys. Truly this game can go either way this week, but I got the Cowboys 31-27.
Some of the Blogging The Boys staff are making picks this season using Tallysight. Here is what we have for all of the Week 14 games, including the Cowboys game.
