Thursday Night Football picks and live discussion: Patriots at Steelers

Our Thursday Night Football thread is now open. Are you taking the Patriots or Steelers?

NFL: New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Tonight’s Thursday Night Football game features a clash between the visiting New England Patriots and the host Pittsburgh Steelers.

DraftKings Sportsbook has the Steelers as 6-point favorites over the Patriots.

This is an open thread for game chat.

Below some of the BTB staff made game picks using Tallysight. Check them out and the explanation for the picks.

Dave Halprin: The Patriots have withered on the vine. Bill Belichick is learning the Golden Rule - no coach is a genius without a decent QB. The Steelers will be without their QB, but still should have enough to defeat a terrible Patriots team. Steelers 17-10.

Tom Ryle: Well, I hope Amazon enjoyed the ratings from the Cowboys win over the Seahawks, because this week’s game between the Steelers and the Patriots doesn’t look to be nearly as entertaining. My pick is based on New England being a bigger mess than Pittsburgh, and I expect the Steelers to win a likely low scoring affair.

David Howman: This game will be a true test of every fan’s love of the sport, as two of the least aesthetically pleasing teams in the NFL have to go up against each other on a short week with backup quarterbacks. This promises to be a very ugly game of football, but I trust Mitch Trubisky slightly more than Bailey Zappe. Give me the Steelers 13-7.

Matt Holleran: What a dud this game turned out to be. The Steelers/Patriots rivalry used to be great, but this one is going to be a snooze fest. Even without Kenny Pickett the Steelers should be able to win this game on account of how awful New England’s offense is. Give me the Steelers, 23-13.

Brian Martin: This TNF matchup between the Steelers and Patriots is another tossup type of game between two bad teams. Neither team seems to have the advantage over the other, so I’m going to flip the coin and go with New England by a touchdown.

RJ Ochoa: This is the ideal night to do a holiday activity, go out to dinner or play that video game that you haven’t found time for. I love football more than most things but this game is going to really challenge that. I’ll take the Steelers along the lines of 20-9.

OCC: My track record in these TNF football picks is a disaster. I picked the Steelers for the win tonight, which probably means the Patriots are going to walk away with the win.
