McCarthy and the 12th man

Part of McCarthy’s Texas Coast Offense has been his enlisting the support of the 12th man.

At some point in every football game one team has, in effect, an extra player to pressure the opponent. That 12th man is the clock.

Get the lead, use time consuming drives to score and force your opponent to become more and more one dimensional in his attack. As time gets tight, he must rely more and more on the pass to gain ground, and save time. But, passing against this Cowboys defense is playing with fire.

This is what MM meant when he said he wants to run the ball more. Gain ground and pull the 12th man onto his team.

We all know that Father Time is undefeated.
